Why so many to the franchise?

Posted by Nick NBHUser icon on 6/10/2026, 23:11:41

Their "fans" on social media seem to be gloating baout how much money we are giving them. Never knew that had so many tbh

I`m going to rule out those that go to every game for obvious reasons. So what are the reasons?

    -Its fairly local
    -We get more tickets
-They want to show franchise a "crowd" (utterly invalid reason if anyone uses that as they seem plenty of away fans)
    - Local "derby" (even more of an invalid reasoj
-AFC dont boycott so why should we?

Personally - fine go if you must. But don't justify it on anything other than you do away games anyway or its local. Anything else is pure horseshit tbh

I'd imagine it's because most people haven't been there before.

        1) there isn't an organised boycott (we can go into the reasons for that another time, social atomisation, online living, collapse in trade union membership etc etc etc)

        2) it's nearby

We're giving them a total of £150k max in terms of ticket sales. Hopefully very little else, but there will be loads buying drinks and food inside the stadium unfortunately.

150k is not exactly a huge amount in terms of clubs annual income and turnover.

They have billionaire owners so the money part doesn't really make a lot of difference.

Even if it is 150k which I think is unlikely due to concessions, 25k of that goes straight to HMRC as VAT. There will be a considerable additional cost for stewards and police.

Our club leadership won't be going and neither should we. As for your points above, I'm with Bob Geldof on this one 'They can see no reasons, cause there are no reasons'.

The truth is simple. If it was complicated, everyone would understand it.

                Oh, bravo to our 'leadership'

If they knew how to spend a decent chunk of our £200m windfall, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Dunno but it's very sad. We should have left the away bit empty. Fuck them, now they can pretend we're local rivals and it will legitamise them in their own heads.
I'm aware plenty of other clubs bring big followings there but I thought we'd be different, it's a real shame.
I could drive there in 20 mins but will have a huge shit instead.

Here's the question that I asked deeuu earlier - his lack of answer is, to me, an answer in itself.

What is your answer - I have no idea - the answer could be anywhere between none and six.

So, having missed four away games already (I'm not criticising you for that), missing another is no big deal. Ignoring the Covid period, the last away game that I missed was in the Conference and the one before that was Steve Howard's debut. I have always said that I would only go there if we played there or it was the last ground that I have left to do. Despite it being the nearest ground to my home, it is one of only four that I haven't been to.

As far as I am concerned, I hate them but I plan to go.

It's no big deal for me to miss it, I'm not fussed about away games this season or next as I want to make sure I make as many home games as poss before we leave KR.

I just find it a bit depressing 6,000 Hatters will happily trot along to a retail park and hotel that happens to have a pitch out the back to see us play a fake football club.

They have been sniffing around underage football clubs in Flitwick and Ampthill recently recruiting kids to be flag bearers for this specific game. I've also noticed more kids decked out out in their kits recently near me in North Beds, not a lot granted, but noticeably more than 5 or 6 years ago when I bring my own kids to training and their own matches.

We will shortly have a 25,000 seater stadium to try and fill and should be out actively engaging in places like Leighton Buzzard, Central Beds and Bedford giving them £5,000, £150,000 or a shiny pound coin is nauseating.

I don't disagree with your sentiment.

But if the franchise are undertaking that activity, which you describe, then why aren't we? Are the club doing anything in those areas you describe? If not, why not? Why are they letting that happen without taking action themselves?

As you say, we have a 25,000 capacity ground to fill, at some point in the future. We need to start getting people who live in Luton, Bedfordshire and other surrounding areas engaged in what is happening at PC to whet the appetite, to attract floating football fans, to get kids saying to their parents "can we go there when it's open?" Yet, there is next to nothing from the club regards PC

As an aside, there is another news story on the BBC website about Wrexham's new stand. Where is our publicity?

I'm not going to the franchise by the way and not because of the dreadful football we're playing. I just refuse to step foot in the place but I'm not knocking anyone else who's going

Re: Why so many to the franchise?

Fair comment. But largely we are pretty sold out in home areas most weeks.

We couldn't grow our fan base in the PL and so we can't really expand our fan base until PC comes along.

Stealers have plenty of scope for reaching out as they have rather a number of empty seats at every game.

Re: Why so many to the franchise?

Yeah, sure, but I mean in prep for PC - get youngsters engaged with the club or, at least, aware of the club and what it's doing to build hype and interest leading up to the move. 20-odd months, if that is still the timescale, will fly by. Leaving it until the ground is open might be too late to rescue some kids from them. Although I do think both towns are big enough to sustain 2 professional football clubs but I realise that's not the point

We need to try and get kids interested in other ways. Not easy without getting them in to he ground but resigning ourselves to the fact that MK are invading our traditional fanbase areas seems defeatist. If we allow that to happen, without the club at least trying to counter it, what good will it do for the fans to boycott that shower of wankers? Not that it'd do much good anyway

The "new ground" factor? - always adds to the following (or would do if tickets weren't restricted at a lot of them).

I'll go because I want to support the team and I don't see what boycotting achieves. And my sister lives there so I get to see her too - but you can't have everything.

No one should have to justify why they are, or are not going. But, people should be aware of the reasons why people feel strongly on either side. People should also be consistent in their reasoning. My reasoning for going is four fold; as i rarely can do away games these days it happens to be a a day i can do. My solitary away league game last season was Port Vale. My eldest wants me to go with him and as its local its easy enough time wise. Finally, its another ground to tick off.

As MG implies, if others don't like it, tough.

I am going to Wycombe, but not going to the franchise. I was offered free hospitality and turned it down. I thought about going up and standing outside a La Hockey Stadium day, but decided not to even do that.
