If the PL relegate them to EFL, hopefully the EFL will refuse to accept them.
They could then end up in National League North next season, potentially playing both Bedford Town and Real Bedford.

Can we just fuck them off to the Saudi Premier league?

Not sure what punishment will work tbh…
How about leaving them in the Prem, but every year they start, they are given a pints deduction of say 40 points. If they get relegated to Champ another 40 points and so on for say the same amount of years they were caught cheating…
Not practical I know, but as good as any other punishment they deserve?

They should be deducted at least 40 points. Their misdemeanours are far worse than ours were.

With a 40 point deduction they will almost certainly avoid relegation even in the PL. They will target the cups to get silverware, some punishment.

For 114 guilty charges, many of which are tantamount to criminal activity in any other business, this would be fraud which can be a sentence up to 10 years imprisonment. A simple points deduction just doesn't cut it for me. Not even close.
Multiple relegations are what's required to cover their sporting advantage - especially given that this is over 9 season's worth of charges. Perhaps relegated 9 divisions would be apt!

That was sort of my train of thought, to keep them there, so no chance of winning, but equally we don’t want them in the lower leagues, with a strong side, with the likes of Foden and Haarland. As the years pass with a continuing points deduction, players won’t want to join them, so hopefully relegated with weaker and weaker squads.
Only an idea I know, but quite enforceable..

Will the players want to stay and play in the Championship?

IMHO there is no point speculating on the potential punishments as I guarantee this will still be unresolved for at least a couple more years yet.
The stronger the team, the stronger the team.

Personally I think they should be relegated to non league. They have taken the piss big time and hey will be forever known as cheats. All the trophies were won by cheating, and they should be scrubbed from the books. UEFA should also strip them of the champions league they won.
The PL needs to realise that the precedent has now been set and they need to act with severe punishments. This has cost other teams severely both financially and has ruined the stature of the game, not only in the UK but the whole world.
What they did is far worse than us, Rangers and Juventus put together. This is outright fraud and cheating and they need to be held to account.

No way it happens imo. Just be a big financial penalty and perhaps a transfer ban. Token points deduction.
UAE will be putting pressure on politically and I'm sure lobbying our government behind the scenes to make sure it's not too severe.
I can imagine most top Prem clubs would be keen for sanctions that aren't too severe given they're all at it to some degree
Re: City

The financial penalty could be greatly increased if their competitors successfully sue for loss of earnings.
Re: City
Posted by Doctor Ince on 30/9/2026, 14:46:29, in reply to "Re: City"
I don't see how they can though. I know it's out of the time frame but just as an example, say Watford sue for FA Cup winnings, there's no guarantee Watford would've beaten whoever got to the final instead of city. Brighton probably wouldve fancied their chances of beating Watford, so do they get a claim?
There's just nothing tangible to claim against
Re: City
Posted by Vladimir Luton on 30/9/2026, 15:04:46, in reply to "Re: City"
That's possibly true with cups. But I reckon a team who finished 5th in the PL and missed out on CL has a legitimate claim, or 8th and missed out on Europe etc. I don't think those who finished 18th and got relegated have a legitimate claim though. That's just taking the pi$$.
Re: City
Posted by Doctor Ince on 30/9/2026, 15:22:42, in reply to "Re: City"
How do you point it to City though? Perhaps the team that finished 5th beat City once and lost out because of a dodgy offside call or GK mistake? There's 1000s of actions over a season, it can't all blamed on city
Re: City
Posted by Godders on 30/9/2026, 15:48:42, in reply to "Re: City"
I think it becomes so complex if you bring other clubs into the mix that there needs to be a line drawn underneath and say there is no right of appeal or sueing Man City over this. They can keep their trophies and titles but perhaps asterisked.
For the above reason, they absolutely must make sure that the tangible punishment is so severe to make a point. A fine is pointless. So is a points deduction because, as has already been mentioned, only relegation to the championship will be ineffective as they'll almost certainly piss it (but many players may leave).
They need to be relegated to the conference and banned from European competition for that season and they'll be unlikely to get European football for many years to come. And add a transfer embargo to that too. That'll learn 'em.

I think the Everton/Burnley PSR case sets the precedent for this. Every year in this period there will be clubs who think they have a legitimate claim that City cheated them out of money. Some claims will be stronger than others but you can see how Liverpool in 2014 can say they missed out on the title and prize money. The 2 points difference is well within the advantage City gained by cooking the books.
Re: City
Posted by Doctor Ince on 30/9/2026, 15:50:45, in reply to "Re: City"
Yes agreed on Liverpool. The Everton case shouldn't have had that ruling imo just for this can of worms it opens.
I would say though that if City were cheating Liverpool finished 2 points behind I think it asks questions of how legit Liverpool were.
I treat top level football like top level athletics - they're all doping, it's just who gets caught

I don't know. I have a feeling they'll get a points deduction severe enough to send them down.
Re: City

In an ideal world, but I can't see their very influential Emerati owners allowing that, or clubs like Chelsea wanting it
Re: City

I just think everyone is so stunned by it there’s no way anything but a huge points deduction would be tolerated.
Didn’t Chelsea basically get off scott free on their charges? So they’d be pleased if imagine (unless I’m confusing their case with another)

I suspect you’re right. I think a proportionate and meaningful punishment would be:
Let them keep their titles but put an asterisk on official records. No financial penalty but pay costs of investigation. Demotion to League 2 Three year transfer ban.
That would be more meaningful than a points deduction and fine.
Re: City

I understand that if they're relegated through a points deduction they'll go into the Championship. However if the EPL throw them out, it'll be put to a vote of the 72 EFL clubs whether to accept them in the EFL, and if accepted they'll be put in League 2.
However however, we all know money talks.....
This has given Sky Sports News a reason to exist again, but they've ruined it by having brain-dead motormouth Jamie O'Hara giving his opinions for two hours.
