Top 10 towns/cities that their football clubs should be doing much better than they do

Bristol City - big city with large catchment base. Ok so they compete with Rovers and rugby but there are loads of small towns in the nearest vacinity so they should be well able to have a team that are at least a yo-yo club in the top flight. Having had just 4 seasons (I think) in the top flight, is woeful for a club of the potential size of the Robins.

Plymouth Argyle. Again a massive untapped catchment area but without any other sizeable club close by.

Peterborough. Again the Posh have a large catchment area although just about in the catchment area for the London clubs so will be struggling for that. But the city is rapidly growing and they really ought to get their act together in terms of community engagement. They could easily be getting crowds of 20k especially with a city centre ground location.

Crewe Alexandra. Whilst the town itself is quite small, it has (or had) a great reputation for bringing through kids. So community engagement is clearly already in place. But it's another town that is growing rapidly. I wouldn't expect them to be challenging for the PL places but it is surprising, to me, that they seldom even get the to Championship or 2nd tier. Maybe they suffer form being too close to Liverpool and Manchester.

Carlisle. Again virtually no competition by other clubs in the area, but it is a city of similar size to Burnley. Wouldn't expect them to rtegualalry be in the top flight but occasionally challenging for it would seem fit, rather than there solitary season in the 70s.

Leyton Orient. All the established league London clubs seem to have a modicum of success - even Millwall. But other than a solitary top flight season in the 60s they tend to founder in the lower reaches. Why? It can't just be because they're sandwiched pretty much equidistant between Spurs and West Ham.

Live justly, love mercy, perpetuate generosity, walk humbly.
