25 years ago today saw one of the most famous debuts, and goals, in the history of the club: Jean-Louis Valois (or Valoris, as he was called in the Luton News a week before). On any other day the story of the game would have been Steve Howard's recall and goal, or the hat-trick by Carl Griffiths, but it was Valois's display and goal that most people probably remember. Especially poor old Kevin Dearden, in goal for Torquay that day, who saw it fly past him.

Valois played the game on non-contract terms so Kinnear took him out to Sunday lunch the following day and persuaded him to sign a contract.

I was with Mick Harford and Valois Agent at Milton Keynes Greyhound Stadium the evening of Valois debut. During the evening I learned that Matthew Taylor going to Portsmouth was a done deal. That was a big disappointment after watching such a brilliant game in the afternoon.
