Hatters Heritage - On this day

    Matches played: https://hattersheritage.co.uk/matches?played-today=yes&sort=date-desc

    Debuted today: https://hattersheritage.co.uk/players?debut-today=yes&sort=date-active

    Born today: https://hattersheritage.co.uk/players?born-today=yes&sort=date-active

The Hatters have played 25 games on 14th September with the first being a 1-0 defeat away at Portsmouth 125 years ago, in 1901, and the last being a 1-0 win away at Millwall in 2024.

For a certain generation the most memorable match today was, however, played 35 years ago when a returning Mick Harford scored 2 goals in a 2-1 home win against Derby County (with the winning goal being a brilliant right foot volley in the last minute of the game).

7 players have made their debut today and they are:

    Samuel Farrant (1907)
Bob Graham & John Foster (1921)
Alan McBain & Jock Weir (1963)
    Steve Thompson (1991)
    Alan Harper (1993)

2 players have been born on this day and they are:

    Thomas Burgess (1877)
    Alan Sheehan (1986)

      Thanks Strider.

The Coventry game was my first at Kenilworth Road
63 years ago! I remember the huge Coventry support at the game

I didn't become a regular until 2 seasons later though.

I was in the Bobbers for that first game: next time I went in that stand, it was in an Executive Box (for Pogue's sons birthday). Quite some gap! Oak Road/Kenilworth Road/DPS for all the other 60+ years.

I too was in the Bobbers for the Covy game. No segregation that day many Coventry fans mixing with Luton.
Start of the Jimmy Hill Sky Blue revolution, one of the first clubs to use charter trains for away games.

Fun fact: 63 years ago was, in fact, 1963!

            😊

It's been a long, strange trip* and a wonderful roller coaster....who could want for a more eventful club to follow!

I imagine similar for you: maybe longer?

I remember that Friday night game at Tranmere, took the wife and she kept falling asleep. Went to an Indian afterwards with a lot of Tranmere supporters none of whom supported Tranmere.

Surely Harford scored against Oldham after returning from Derby?

I see that Alan Sheehan became part of the Welsh international "management team" recently.
