    Walsh

First - I don't hate him - I think he is a perfectly ok player for us to have in squad however
    a) he is not good enough to play the way he does - he cannot pull off those tricks with his back to play and another player on him. The coaches need to be honest with the guy about that
    b) We are not good enough for him to lose the ball where he does - we just don't have defenders who can react quick enough. Nothing we can do about that except stop losing the ball in front of our defence
    c) He needs to play with someone who compliments him - I have no idea who as Clark even when fit is not exactly a hard tackling big man. As everyone said we should have signed someone but didn't. Whether or not someone like Odofin can play as a DM I don't know but we cannot play Gore next to Walsh
    d) Overall as I have said for last 2 years we should not have arrived at a situation where Walsh is our lynch pin player. Like I say he is not bad and can do a job but we are so reliant on him now which is how bad our recruitment has gone - both ins and outs but given it is what it is the manager is paid to try to make something work better which involves getting the player some help and also coaching him to play to his strengths

Individually he finished last season well and started this season ok, but I can't see us getting anywhere with him in that role (which is the only role he can play, so it means we won't get anywhere with him in the team). I expect our best chance of doing anything this season will be with a midfield three of Palmer - Gore - Clark.

Walsh is our play maker atm and our only one, teams have identified this and nearly always have 2 players on him.

But as stated with Palmer mis- firing it’s not working for him.

Strange sub last night in taking Marshall off or even Kodua, who still had plenty left in the tank

Have said similar things throughout last season and now this. Walsh is a decent enough lower league player but if we have any ambition whatsoever at being a comfortable league one playoff team or heaven forbid a team looking at automatic promotion it’s not with Walsh as a regular starter unless he has players way above the level alongside him. End of last season with an on fire palmer, clicker and the lesser spotted Lawrence he was able to do what he does pretty well but now palmer appears to have lost all sense of what made him great last year, clicker is out for god knows how long and Lawrence is taking his 3 months to get up to speed it’s really showing Walsh for what I’m afraid he is, average.

Add to that the obsession that handsome Rob, Bloomfield and now Jack have of thinking he can do exactly what Barkley did for us in terms of receiving the ball from defence facing our keeper and then dictating play and as already said on this thread it’s disaster waiting to happen, he’s way to slow in his control and distribution and whereas Barkley would trap it instantly and then waltz past 3 opponents Walsh simply does t have that in his locker. It’s painful we are persisting with it and it’s costing us dearly.

            Entirely agree.

I don't get the love in.

Top footballer, brave in possession. Picks a pass.

But why play a small and lightweight technical player just in front of our defence.

He needs to be helped out with a strong presence alongside.

I remember West Ham fans singing "Heigh-Ho" about our midfield nearly 40 years ago!

On the ball I think he's a level above this league. He puts himself about as well but needs someone alongside. Pelly would've been good

Yeah, he's good on the ball, decent passer and good first touch. He lacks physicality, pace and athleticism though.

Jack is setting up his side to compensate for Walsh's deficiencies and its seriously unbalancing the team.

Agreed, although it was a poor touch by Walsh that led to their opener. Although I do think it was a pretty clear foul

                  Opposition manager team talk.
"They will play into Walsh's feet at every opportunity,he rarely takes ball on a half turn, he faces his own goal, physically press him and he will lose possession, you are then straight through on goal".

And he'll completely stop and wave at the referee appealing for a free kick rather than put up any resistance whatsoever
