You can disable it. It puts unnecessary strain on your starter motor.

Except I'm not wrong. Continually having to restart your car puts additional strain on the battery and the starter motor.

Cars I've been in you can indeed disabled it but it defaults back to being on when you next use the car. I would imagine the default could be changed to off with a good OBD port.

These things are defaulted on as they are a safety feature.

In the future expect the cars speed to be controlled by the GPS location. Hopefully my ashes will be spread around the pitch at Power Court by the time it's introduced 😄

It doesn't. Starter motor is commensurately uprated.

Bloody annoying, though, like all this autonomous bollocks. The absolute worst is when they start shrieking 'brake' just because you're a bit close to the vehicle in front.

Sorry car, I'm the one with the licence, the advanced training, the 35 years of driving experience. You're five, blind, deaf and dumb, kindly butt the fuck out of it.

Nonsense. Of course it does. Uprated or not. Though I doubt Stellantis will have bothered. Also you are putting strain on the battery too.

                      Ish, I should clarify.

Starter motors are basically bomb-proof, electrically, anyway. It's the inertia drive mechanics that are potential failures. I've never known a motor to actually die but many of my old Dagenham dustbins have required a hammer on board in case of sticky gearing.

I bought a replacement starter for my wannabe track car because of an intermittent starting problem. Having removed the radiator to even get to the starter it transpired that there was no nut holding the solenoid switch wire on. This is a twenty-odd year old, French, car with barely 100k on it so plenty of short journeys and multi starts on a high compression engine and the existing starter was fine. I only replaced it because the replacement was, allegedly, only a few months old and it had taken me a few hours to get that far.

                      Word.

a hammer on board in case of sticky gearing.

To belt the Starter? If it involved giving it a wallop (taking my old Dads advise) it meant keeping an 18” bit of 2x2 wood in the boot too to poke between the mechanics. Good advice actually as I had to use it a couple of times to start an old Triumph I had many years ago..

Sorry to get technical, but the start stop does not use the starter motor, indeed all BMW,s with hybrid tech don’t have a stater motor at all, they have a generator that charges as you brake,
They have a separate battery to the car battery, and that can need to be replaced after time.
The fact is if you are in heavy traffic, walking your dog or walking to football, you don’t need to be breathing fumes of stationary cars stuck in traffic, you can turn it off, or put in sport mode, but really it’s not the end of the world, Lane assist is far far worse, whoever thought that was a safe idea…..
