I see on social media there’s some consternation about what we’ve spent on players and wages in the PL money seasons.

It’s been in the accounts for some time. For the last two seasons, Luton have spent the following:

      Wages: £84.2M
Registrations: £54.5M not net of disposals.
      Social security: £11.9M

Out of interest, around two or three weeks ago, you mentioned that you were going to write to the club and a number of financial bodies. Could we get an update on how that’s progressing?

The truth is simple. If it was complicated, everyone would understand it.

            WUM 2

The only real positive is for the trust lads to carry on nipping round Gary's gaff for tea and scones after all that propaganda guff.

The club encouraged us to challenge and no question was denied. So they didn't bother to ask how much debt PC would leave us in then?

The profit (from player sales) will contribute to player aquasitions and the construction of PC.
So despite telling us that the PL money would sort any financial issues with PC, they admit its having an adverse effect on the strengthening of the squad.

No dividends have been paid to directors from the clubs profits. Yeah, I'm sure Gary becoming a multi millionaire has had no effect on the clubs finances eh?

We were able to address some areas where there has been a level of misinformation across some social media. What areas did you actually address? Because I can't see answers to a multitude of questions that have been asked.

Thank fuck I didn't go ahead and 'PAY YER TENNER'.

+1 my thoughts exactly when reading the email the other day.

Power court funding was secured before promotion to the prem. Then promotion enabled us to do more, sooner. This meant some Prem money was used. Fine. Why is it being propped up by player sales now?

On the subject of power court... We keep being fed bollocks about the middle East. What is the impact this is having on the stadium? Considering the hundereds of building projects going on, I can't see how one relatively small stadium in a town in England is top of the affected priority list.

What happens if the housing market continues the way it currently is and we don't get expected value for the flats (which will only flood the market more)?

What housing concerns do you have? They won't be going on sale for a few more years yet through to the early 2030s. People will always invest in property, even if the club need to drip drip the release. It is prime real estate and Bedfordshire as a whole is really on the up. Universal Studios has probably helped somewhat too.

There's some kind of financial shock every 3-5 years - there's been more than most since 2008.

I agree that these shocks can't keep being blamed. Every project in the country has to go through some kind of financial hit... whether it be Covid, Brexit, Trump, Iran etc. Just need to get on with it as there will never be a perfect time.

Oh, right. So the Power Court financing - not to mention the CEO’s remuneration - should be in safe hands then. No need to ask any questions as everything is tickety-boo. Thanks for clearing that up. I needn’t have posted that link earlier.

That is one of my concerns regarding servicing the debt, which the club have now decided is acceptable but which still feels unnecessary

So that seems like, from the premier league distributions (including parachute payments):

£144 million been spent on the playing squad (some recovered through player sales)
£40 million been spent on power court

Our recruitment really has been a disaster in recent years.

The recruitment from summer 2023 to summer 2025 has set this club back years. Appalling waste of money. Hopefully with the overdue shake-up of recruitment things will change and we can make up some of that time with Wilshere, Powell and the new bloke now looking after that side

I feel more hopeful than dreadful that it's going to turn in the right direction again.

My genuine instinct (not based in evidence but instinct) is that we shouldn't attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence. I am sure major mistakes have been made but I'm not convinced there's a big conspiracy (consipiracy about this - I believe there's loads about MI6, Mountbatten, David Kelly and dossiers etc 🤣

There certainly has been malice from certain fans, though.

Several ridiculous postings at the end of last season that then got taken as gospel by those already predisposed to believe such stuff.

It's pretty clear that JW and GS have a good relationship. And to me it felt like this all last season, which was why it was quite depressing to see some really outlandish accusations on here.

I feel more hopeful now than I have done since Jan 2023, recruitment-wise

I hope it was incompetence and not malice otherwise that is/was a really serious problem! I don't think anyone is arguing anything was done maliciously but it was clearly awful. They say you are 2 poor transfer windows away from things unravelling. We had 4. Arguably 5

                        Sounds very positive.

However, when they say the club is being run sustainably, does that mean the Trust have been given an indication of the level of debt, how much it will cost to service, and whether they’ve stress-tested that against a worst-case scenario, say, us still being in League One when the new ground opens?

If they have, and the debt is still considered manageable in that scenario, then that would be very reassuring.

All profits were reinvested into player acquisitions, the Power Court stadium project and long‑term strategic investment. For full transparency, it should be noted that no dividends have been paid to Directors from the club’s profits.

What difference does this make ? Surely it’s still money the club could use either on power court or on player development?

Would comparable include what our ceo is paid ?

The scale of overall operations remained comparable with that of other Championship clubs, therefore administrative expenses were relatively static. The club recorded an operating profit of £17.1m, driven by the first year Premier League parachute payment and significant player trading activity during the summer of 2024.

Wouldn’t it be great if the below statement also applied to all staff….👀👀👀👀

The club also confirmed that new Salary Control Management Protocol (SCMP) regulations for this season require that only 50% of turnover, plus 100% of net player trading income, plus 50% equity can be contributed to player wages, which will act as a competitive advantage for the club, which continues to target budgeting healthily within these limits.

Not many clubs could sustain what we have over the last few years and still have headroom whilst building a state of the art stadium - yes there’s been errors on the playing side but overall ship is sailing in the right direction
