Home vs Norwich City, a draw. Can’t recall if it was 70-71 or 71-72?

1982 League Cup game against Charlton. When you grew up watching Southern League footballers like Colin Clewlow (who was about as good as his name suggests), Paul Walsh Ricky Hill and Brian Stein was like seeing football from a different planet.

I wouldn’t swear to this but I think Paul Elliott was bought from Charlton on the back of his performance that night.

Luton v Bury, 15 December 1962, I was 11, went with my Dad and watched it from the Bobbers Stand.

We won 2-1. I was lucky to see 2 of English football's most prolific post-war goalscorers, Gordon Turner and Ron Davies, score for the Town that day.

Bob Stokoe played for Bury, he was Player Manager.

Exeter home, 1967 (0-0). One of the Exeter players from that game now lives next door to my Mum in Somerset. He is struggling with dementia, but I had a good chat with him about his career a couple of years ago.

people often say about how they remember their first ever game and can tell you who and when it was.

But I can't, I remember being taken to the oak road as a youngster by my Dad along with one of my brothers, but wouldn't know how old I was or who it was against, or even that feeling of entering the ground for the first time. Even my dad says he can't remember when I asked him a few years back. He just said he probably took me and my brothers, as my mum was working saturdays and he couldn't be bothered to stay at home and babysit like he was supposed to!

1958 Luton 1 Leeds 1. My dad was a season ticket holder in the main stand. In those days you had your name painted on the bench. I remember after the match coming down the steps at the back, everyone looked so tall.

Same for me, all I recall it was 1968, which would have made me nine years old.
Dad said we sat in the Bobbers, and I vaguely recall the Black and White Kit.

Dads been gone 29 years ago now, so nothing remains , apart from catching a bus from Park Square home.

Can’t have been sitting in the Bobbers Stand in 1968 RF, as seats weren’t installed there until the 73/74 season.

For the first game of that season the stand was only partly seated. If that was your first game you’d have certainly remembered that as it was a cracking 6-1 win at home to Carlisle, having been 1-0 down at half time. The stand was not fully seated for a League game until the next home match against Portsmouth (which was also another exciting match, which ended in 3-3 draw).

Alan Slough was the only player to play all 53 games that we played in 1968/69. He played 38 games the previous season

He only missed seven games in 1968.

Same here. I know it was fairly early in 1965/66 but no idea who against. My parents didn't drive so we used to go to Bedford by bus and watch the Eagles. My grandfather then stopped working Saturday afternoons so picked up me, my brother and my dad and took us to Luton games.

He was on loan from Swansea to Cardiff. You can imagine how the Cardiff fans reacted to him letting in seven against his former club. After that Agent Barber decided that perhaps it was time to hang up his gloves. He went on to be a pub landlord and a stalls handler at Newmarket racecourse.

Have a vivid memory of an ominous clap of thunder as we left the ground, which would have been appropriate for a season in which we had flirted with relegation.

My first away adventure on the coach (which broke down en route) was Swindon away in the FA cup, probably 1968, when Don Rogers played for Swindon. Stood along the side.

Not a bad first game 😆

I was in the Maple Triangle so got a close up of the Walsh goal and Chedozie half volley

6th January 1973 for me.. a 1-1 draw with Orient. My Dad took me for my 8th birthday treat! It was an evening game and we sat in the Bobbers. I don’t remember much about the game except for the Ryans playing head-tennis in front of us at one point.

But the lights, the noise.. I was instantly hooked!

14 January 1967, 1-1 draw at home to Barnsley, David Pleat scoring our goal (exact date and goalscorer according to Hatter’s Heritage rather than my memory). I had eventually persuaded my eldest brother (a Spurs fan) to take me after I had turned down supporting Spurs in favour of rather randomly deciding to support Luton (I grew up in Edgware and our father had died not long after I was born so no influence there).
