GET IN! After Palmer this was the player I wanted us to sign the most. Excited to see him develop even more. He’ll tear this league apart.

Recruitment has been so much better this summer than for a long while
Bravo Wilshere, Powell and the new fella

I think it’s been a really good summer - happy with all the signings.
Interesting to look back on last summer. We signed 12 players:
7 will be a key part of the squad this season and were involved in the excellent run at the end of last season. Saville is a good squad option.
Lonwijk, Yates, AAH and Gbode were all been poor signings, so really the main blind spot seems to have been strikers. This has been an issue for a while, hopefully Marshall will be the turning point. In retrospect last summer was not that bad, but we definitely seem to have gone for quality over quantity this time.

Good summary
I'd argue Saville was a failure from last summer too but he might click this time round
But, yeah, I think that's fair. I suppose this time round it feels much more strategic, much less scattergun, much more targeted and building a team/squad rather than just signing people and then wondering where they will play and how they will gel
Still think we need another striker and a left back but I don't think it's the be all and end all if we don't get them

100% agree on more strategic, less scattergun.
I think we’re fine at LB with Naismith and Johnson (really, one would have to leave to bring anyone else in). The system we play now where the LB can drop into CB while Jones can push forward on the right and the left sided player can revert to a LWB suits them both.
I think we need a better target man, but realistically we’re only going to get one if at least one of Cole or Nordas leaves.
We need a CB if / when Mengi goes, I reckon.
Otherwise I think we’re fine, even with Luker’s rumoured long term injury (Kodua or Richards can cover Palmer in the 10 role).

Yeah, I think kodua is taylor made to come in centrally
Re: Lawrence signs

I've liked most of what Wilshere has done since January but not persisting with Kodua, centrally, was a weird one. As it had been working

But surely Palmer has taken that position? Or am I missing something?
Re: Lawrence signs

He was playing further forward than Palmer. An out and out striker at times although he dropped deeper at others

My memory of last season is shot.....maybe selective!
I remember him having one particular outstanding game in the number ten role but then I think he got injured.

Yeah, that was odd.
JW's also been saying in pre season how his future position is central. I wonder if he just didn't quite trust him to implement his style of football at that time.

outlaws is not the barometer of sanity. You're either Luton full tilt or you are nothing. We have spunked way too much money on shite. The end.

Great signing.
Not sure about his quote "in orange, white or purple" though! Just doesn't sound right.

If you are referring to the recent post by the club, I saw that as an upcoming announcement about a third kit, rather than a player.
Happy to be proved wrong though.

It is something that frustrates me about modern football. I wouldn’t say he has no chance, but he only has a remote chance of getting into that City team.
These players are just assets to them (much like Kabore). They have about 100 professional players on their books.
Let him go on a reasonable permanent transfer for a fee. I’m sure they’d have want many millions for a player who has only shone at L1 so far.
Re: Lawrence signs
Posted by Earls on 14/8/2026, 09:10:46, in reply to "Re: Lawrence signs"
Maybe Lawrence is out of our budget at L1, but we could afford him in the Championship if we get promoted? I’m sure he’s never playing for City, but we’ve done it ourselves too with strange signings who never played for us like Pepple.
Re: Lawrence signs
Posted by LTFC39 on 14/8/2026, 09:24:01, in reply to "Re: Lawrence signs"
We are absolutely doing the same (as are most clubs who are EPPP2 or higher, or aiming to get to that level).
The PFA probably don’t care despite the long term effects as it keeps their people employed.
You're right and they obviously think that if he's a big success with us this season they will get a lot more for him next Summer - well I assume so anyway.
Still, good news for us for this season.
