Hatters Heritage - On this day

    Matches played: https://hattersheritage.co.uk/matches?played-today=yes&sort=date-desc

    Debuted today: https://hattersheritage.co.uk/players?debut-today=yes&sort=date-active

    Born today: https://hattersheritage.co.uk/players?born-today=yes&sort=date-active

Surprised that after my posts for the last 2 days (which highlighted matches in the period between 1969 and 2014) no responses were made by other fans, giving their memories/recollections/ comments of any of these matches. I won’t therefore highlight particular games in the hope that may encourage others to interact with the games of the day link and then perhaps reply accordingly.

8 matches have been played today with the first being 58 years ago, in 1968, and the last being 5 years ago in 2021.

15 players have made their debut on this day. The first three were in 1968 and the last two were in 2021.

3 players have been born on this day. The first was John Collins (1942), then Andy Burgess (1981) and lastly Alex Palmer (1996).

The Oldham game was my first sight of Mike Harrison. The size of his thighs stood out along with the power of his shooting. It was unfortunately an all to rare appearance due to him being out injured for a lot of his time at the club.

I’ll add - the Peterborough game in 2002. Jimmy Bullard absolutely ran the show that day and we all saw just how f*cking useless Alan Kimble was.

I often say he was the worst player I've ever seen in a Luton shirt. He was so slow on that day against Peterborough I thought he'd been paused.

That he was 'replacing' Matt Taylor probably didn't help.

Funny to think that Villa game was 10 years ago - doesn't feel that long since we got a first proper glimpse at how good JJ was.

The Vassell winner for Cardiff was an absolute gut-punch

The defeat at Southport left us in 17th place in the Conference - the lowest league position since we joined the Football League in 1920.

Well I’ll add one then. Andy Burgess was born the day I entered the workforce…..
