Coventry have already spent almost £60m on the winger Loum Tchaouna, the defender Aurèle Ame and keeper Carl Rushworth. Now set to break their transfer record for the fourth time in this window after agreeing a £23m fee with Danish side Nordsjælland for the Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi.
Certainly different from our approach 😬. Hope that it doesn’t backfire.

They will always have a soulless stadium 8 miles out of town, f##k that!

Soulless definitely but the ground is in Longford part of Coventry one and a half miles from the city centre.

Why would it backfire?
Every time a team goes up from the Championship to the Prem and spend a few quid, people think it'll go bad for them. It generally doesn't these days
Burnley are a top 25 club now in a town smaller than Luton. Ipswich bounced right back. Apart from Leicester, no side has found themselves in financial problems after dropping out of the top flight for a long time. Sunderland in 2018 the only other example I can think of in the last decade
Wrexham will get to the top flight within the next 2 years and they'll establish as a top 30 side
Whatever happens, it's pretty unlikely that Cov will find themselves in L1 in 2 years time
We were double relegated from the prem and failed to make the 3rd division play offs but we are very quick to sneer at others. We need to stop being so self satisfied and stop thinking we are 'above' other clubs

Okay, so how much do you think we should have spent, and what, in your opinion, would that have got us?
Re: Coventry
Posted by The Questioner on 6/8/2026, 10:02:33, in reply to "Re: Coventry"
Spot on …I know it’s not a popular opinion but I believe it wasn’t just for the stadium the reason we spent so little. Just to be clear I fully expect the investors to get returns and money back as a huge gamble .

Spot on mate.
Many on here sneered at Ipswich for spending a few quid.
2 of their first 3 games this season are Man U and Liverpool.
We bought Hashioka and Holmes in our one season up there. Went down with a whimper. Then went down again. Then fucked a 3rd season. To rub it in, despite banking nearly £200m, we're back to being pretty skint and our debt free new stadium will leave us in a load of debt.
Whatever happened with that thing where some architects were suing us due to not being paid?
Jack really needs us to be at it from the off this season(I think/hope he will)
Re: Coventry
Posted by Sheff on 6/8/2026, 16:07:31, in reply to "Re: Coventry"
I really don't think we went down with a whimper.
The first ⅓-½ of the season might have looked that way but when Edwards decided to go on the attack we had some great games and fell two wins short of staying up.Farige Bought For £5m

We won just 1 of our last 17 games.
We went down with a whimper.

+1 to both of you.
That Jan transfer window was a shambles. It's not even hindsight as many said it at the time.
We only signed Holmes because we got him on the cheap from Reading

Show me where I have raised this subject as a new thread this year????
Simply stating the obvious here based on the entirety accurate posts above.
The fact that I/we still trigger some suggests maybe some guilt from those who castigated those with more foresight and not wearing the sponsored blinkers.

“Afford a security detail”?!?! I didn’t realise (a) that Outlaws had a paramilitary wing and (b) anyone knows or cares your real identity. Having joined in the “This window is looking a bit shit” line, perhaps I should check my granola for arsenic.

😬
Personally I am happy with this window. My main concern is the consideration that Benagr will be loaned out.
Quality left footed left side players are increasing hard to find.
Don’t care if JW supposedly has worked with young players and “knows what he is doing” - the kid is 18 there is no urgency to loan, keep him around the first team squad and use him when required.
JJ was playing in the Premier League aged 17, he has never been loaned out so don’t understand why so many think we have to with BB.

Re: Coventry - JJ age

James Justin or Joe Johnson? Neither were 17 when they made their debut (according to google) but bot still quite young
Re: Coventry
Posted by Earls on 6/8/2026, 10:14:37, in reply to "Re: Coventry"
I agree with a lot of that, but ultimately I think Wilshere’s experience with youth players, plus the goodwill he’s earned from last season, means we should trust his judgement on what’s best player by player. Also, he hasn’t said Benagr is going on loan, only that he might. I can maybe see Kodua being played more centrally and Benagr being a super sub this season, finishing teams off in the last 20 mins: he’s certainly more of a left winger than Kodua. But if Wilshere does send Benagr to League 2, I’ll assume that must be best for him and the club.
Re: Coventry

No two players are the same.
JJ was an exceptional talent.
What was right for him may not be right for Benagr.
Re: Coventry
Posted by Cuba on 6/8/2026, 10:21:15, in reply to "Re: Coventry"
I guess that could also argue then that the lack of a loan has held JJ back…..
Although to be fair two serious injuries have really affected him. Winning is everything - more than you have

I thought a large chunk of Prem money went to the total ground up redesign and associated build costs of that very redesign?
Surely the current build looks better then the previous efforts?

Yeah, that's extra empty seats are going to look AMAZING.
Seriously, what looks 'better' than the original plans?
Re: Coventry
Posted by Ronnies Finger on 6/8/2026, 11:07:57, in reply to "Re: Coventry"
Even you must concede those original designs , especially the first one , looked odd at best, that one stand with the low roof, liked like a German bunker on the coast of Normandy.
Never looked right , even if practible.
Also the new stadium was turned round , and capacity increased for the long term, long after we have gone. But then again you know all that don’t you?
Re: Coventry
Posted by bbb on 6/8/2026, 11:33:23, in reply to "Re: Coventry" WUM 2
The original plans were 'quirky' like KR. No need for the extra seats. They'll be empty. The 17.5k with an easy expansion to 23k was perfectly fine. Debt free, built by now and exactly what we needed. Instead, we'll be rattling round in a stadium a third to half empty long after the 2 blokes that own a quarter of the shares have cashed in.
Re: Coventry
Posted by Ronnies Finger on 6/8/2026, 11:59:37, in reply to "Re: Coventry"
…. “ built by now”??
….. “ half empty stadium”???
As I said built for the future , and why wouldn’t any other club do the same with a totally unexpected windfall from the prem.?
Most of your accusations are total subjecture as well. You also come across as a bit of a Luddite
