In the last three financial years, it spent over £12 million on purchasing 10796 new laptops for staff - it has fewer than 6000 employees!

And the tories were in charge. Ironically, it is figures from that very same political party—such as the Conservative Party Chairman and former ministers—who are now leading the public criticism against the Bank of England's resulting hybrid and overseas work arrangements. 🤣

Whichever way round it is, the numbers still seem excessive to me.
Not defending it. Only adding context by showing up the hypocrisy from those complaining. A bit chicken and egg. Agree that on face value it does seem exesive but nothing to compare it to. I’m not an expert.
This is only being highlighted by someone who has a vested interest in commercial property deals in the City of London.
Someone under investigation by the standards committee etc etc, so let’s distract the cultists….
It’s absolutely common practice for anyone in the square mile to have two laptops, one for the office and one for home/second or third home working.
The numbers actually work out to be less than a grand a pop which is low and is either driven by great procurement discounts or is for lower spec devices.
But it’s the agile/home working point which so annoys RT and his long term lease incomes, shame. Winning is everything - more than you have

Just worth adding a bit of context before everyone runs away with the headline.
It may well turn out there was waste, but buying 10,796 laptops over three years doesn't mean they have necessarily have that many sitting around unused. Large organisations routinely replace equipment, often on a three-year cycle and the period quoted could include a major refresh. Add new starters, staff turnover and replacements, and the numbers may look a lot less surprising and fairly standard?
The price also doesn't seem particularly shocking for enterprise IT equipment rather than a consumer laptop.
Specially if they have paid for higher tiers of support or extra the management of certified wiping of data when laptops are replaced etc. etc.
My most recent work laptop purchased last year for example cost just under £1300 and isn't really a enterprise grade model.

Get yourself a chromebook then. I bought 2 earlier this year for myself and Mrs Windsock, reconditioned, good as new but cheaper and better for the environment. Total for both was just over £250. They're not rubbish either. They're HP and have decent processor speeds and 8GB RAM, along with finger print sensor, hdmi, USB, USB-C ports etc.
Not sure how buying a Chromebook or two that can't do more than have the tasks I need a laptop for everyday at work would help. :D
But Chromebooks are a great option if the job fits, they are easy to control as managed devices. The Mac Neo are eating into the Chromebook market share at the moment, which might work for some.

As all BoE employees nature of work is presumably finance only, £1100 for a laptop is ott and one very 18 months is equally ott.

I presume they have a Personnel Department, plus a department for keeping the building clean, furniture etc.in good condition, and so forth.
