Taylan Harris

Another season-long loan at National League level. Gone on loan to Woking. Shame as another I thought might at least be making the the bench this season, yet still having to play two divisions lower.

Yet another one to file under 'waste of PL money' and move on.

I believe he joined from Reading at the same time as Holmes. At that time, our recruitment was dreadful and the reason the recruitment team of the time had been cleaned out.

It coincided with Reading's financial woes and them having to sell most of their squad in cut price deals.
We love a bargain and went in for Homes, Harris and another young centre back Nelson Abbey.
We had been interested in Holmes when we had been in the Championship. To be fair he was highly rated at the time. However, the signing dissent send a great message to fans - and looked like we were already preparing for relegation, particularly given we loaned him straight back to Reading.
Harris was just a promising kid in their youth system. He suffered an injury at the start of our season back in the Championship. Went on loan to Tranmere last season and was fairly anonymous aside from a goal on his debut. Dropping down to Woking probably not a good sign for his development.
We lost out to Forest / Olympiacos with Abbey. He's already moved on to Rio Ave in the Portuguese league. Not really fulfilled his potential either.
I think both Harris and Holmes were low risk punts that haven't come off. Devante Cole, Jerry Yates and Victor Moses.. now thats dreadful recruitment.

Cole and Yates have both got decent records at this level but, for some reason, haven't worked out. Both scored goals in struggling teams last season with Yates doing it in the league above. Not massive numbers but they were still scoring which they couldn't do for us.
Barkley could have turned out like Moses. Both had good track records and, at the time that we signed Moses, people were saying how great it was that we had managed to sign him. Unfortunately, as with a lot of things on here, history gets rewritten.

That should be the tagline at the top of the page

I thought that Moses looked excellent in his first few games. It was around Christmas when we were struggling that his form and mood seemed to drop. Probably just didn’t have the motivation for a bitter relegation scrap at his age

"Barkley could have turned out like Moses."
But he didn't, he was fantastic - which is why he was great bit of recruitment and Moses was dreadful.
There's nothing rewritten about that.

I was making the point that the general consensus on here at the time was that Moses was a good signing.
Barkley and Moses were both gambles - one worked, the other didn't.

Still only 20 so time is on his side but you feel he needs to deliver soon. Didn’t really cut it at Tranmere. Good luck to the lad.
