    Bomb Squad

Makosso, Nordas, Alli, Walters, Yates, Holmes

Think that’s all? Of them, Alli is most disappointing. Looked a threat at the end of our relegation season.

Makosso easy the best of that bunch. If he could get his shit together.

Don't know if anyone on here plays Football Manager, but Makosso turns into a monster centre-half by age 26

But also has a resale value, for pretty much what we paid for him it seems. So if not fancied get money back.

Alli - exciting but flattered to deceive. Again has a resale value.

Nordas Id have liked to have seen make it - but maybe not suited to the lone striker role. Again - resale value.

Yates - not settled here - showed nothing when he played for us apart from a bit of running

Holmes - He obviously had enough about him for us to sign him. But i`ve not seen it. Fine as a scrapping error strewn CB i guess.

Walters - just not really suited to us. Cant hold down a place for one reason or another.

Jack has been pretty ruthless all round. Although the fact he only seems to want one striker to compete with cole and wells is a bit worrying

If he's intending to play 1 up front, then we probably only need 3 senior strikers in the squad - especially if we want to see a young striker getting a chance occasionally, too.

Think that's a bit harsh on Holmes. Despite his lack of ability you knew you we're getting an honest player who always put a shift in. Just not good enough really but faultless for effort.

And Reading were having to shed any player they could due to finances so Holmes was cheaper than fair market value at the time.

Only Holmes and Walters didn’t play at a higher level when loaned out last season. Hopefully we’ll recoup some transfer money but we won’t break even. Nordas was £2.8 million 🙁

Maybe a reflection on how our recruitment failed us in recent seasons or the difficulty of changing 3 Managers in a short period of time. (By our standards. Watford would have had 13)

Missoko / Nordass / Fanne / Van Der Berg / Krauss. All had something to offer but i wonder if as young as they are the transition to a different country and demands of English football was too big a jump. Missoko and Fanne both great athletes but didnt really fit. Obviously seen as development players to sell on for profit. Unsure if that will happen.

Nordass has technical ability. JW labelled him as too nice. Have to play with a physicality in English football which he struggled with. Dominated by the Plymouth centre half as an example in the 2-3 home loss.

Van Der Berg / Krauss. Both flattered to decieve.Again technically reasonable but never influenced a game like Walsh or Clark.

Alli was great to begin with. Can beat a player. Same at Portsmouth. I am not questionning his attitude but maybe he is not as good as he thinks he is.

Yates. Underwhelming signing. For whatever reason did not fit the club ala Warren Feeney / Adam Boyd.

Walters. Definately a player in there. Liked his attitude. Big step up from academy football to getting booted up in the air at Mansfield / Barnsley. Rated at Blackpool

Holmes. Feel sorry for him. Gave 100% in every game I saw him play. Career has been derailed a little here.

Brown. Lot of money for bit player. 100% man and scored against that lot.

Giles. Clearly joined the wrong club coming here.

Hashimoto. Probably the worst signing out of all of them.

Hopefully with a clearer identity on how we play and a new recruitment team in place things will improve.

Hope the bomb squad get the moves they want and wish them well where ever they go next.

Signing young men from foreign countries without infrastructure to support them in their personal lives isn't going to work. The fact that ALL of our foreign signings in recent years (including going back to Sluga) have failed suggests that we're getting something majorly wrong and it might not be the scouting or recruitment itself - as you say, many of them showed some evidence of quality on the pitch.

Other clubs, and other institutions (think universities) have staff and systems in place to look after overseas kids' welfare. Do we? If a young player is good at passing but overwhelmed with letters about council tax and TV Licenses and electricity companies that he doesn't understand, are you going to see him at his best?

I worked abroad as a young man and found a lot of the experience very stressful, and not the things you'd most obviously expect. You really need help otherwise a lot of boring bureaucracy and everyday isolation begins to preoccupy you and take your mind away from work.

I thought Nordass would turn out to be a decent signing, unfortunately he didn't make his presence felt, he didn't offer a worrying threat to defenders in the way an aggressive striker would.

Yeah, as Jack said, too nice.

Whereas Cole has demonstrated nothing whatsoever. Nordas has potential, Cole is just a poor journeyman striker

I'm no tactician (as my attempts at football manager will attest to) but possibly the 'one up front' tactic* needs a striker competent in that role, a big strong fearless lump like Morris for example.

*if we continue down that road.
