    Different onions

Posted by Godders on 10/7/2026, 8:58:24

As I was bringing one of my lads back from something yesterday in tbe car I heard Pat Nevin waxing lyrical about how good France were despite, at the time, being still goalless. Having got home worh the ITV commentary on they were saying, whilst still 0-0 that this was a below par performance from France.

I note now the BBC are running an article debating whether this is the greatest France team ever! France are probably the best team left left in the tournament but the over hyping of them is ridiculous.

On ITV they said 99 players at this World Cup were born in France.

I think France have at least three World class attacking options in Mbpappe, Olise and Dembele which put them a level above.

Doesn't mean they will win the WC as anything can happen in a one-off game but probably the best attacking team since Brazil of Rivaldo etc.

And that's not including Barcola and Doue. They have an abundance of offensive riches. I still think they can be got at defensively, especially out wide.

Genuine question for you pingu, why do Aussies say "far out" so much? I've been watching some of The Block and it seems to be a regular choice of phrase with diverse usage meaning a bit like the f word?

                  they do dont they😂😂.

my kids say it all the time - it is deffo the equivalent of “effing hell” or “wow”.

                  some other ones i notice:

“yeah right” - same as “is it”
“yeah, nah, yeah” - could mean absolutely anything.

As anyone who saw/heard Barry Humphries in his prime (Dame Edna Everage, Sir Les Patterson, etc.) would know.

Back in the day, he also contributed to the hilarious Barry McKenzie cartoon in Private Eye, where I first came upon the brilliant expressions
"technicolour yawn" and "pointing percy at the porcelain".
