England got the job done, and finished where we needed.
Knock out is where it gets interesting.
Wait till we scrape a 0-0 with Reading.
A weak man is found in the crowd, seeking validation and attention.
A strong man is found alone, seeking peace and improving himself.
We’re a million miles away from looking as cohesive and fluent as France (who will win the tournament) We’ve actually gone backwards in easy on the eye football and have been left with a rather ugly, disjointed, brand of football
It was like watching Luton (first half of last season) at times. Loads of possession, sideways passing, no decent right back, shaky defence, wide players running into dead ends a CF with the movement of a snail.
I mean, it wasn't for much of last season on here when Luton didn't play particularly well.
Obviously I'm delighted we've won the group and, on paper, have an easier route.
But the result and the performance aren't the same thing. The one huge positive I'd take is that against Croatia, a better side who actually came at us, we looked far more dangerous going forward because there was space to exploit.
What worries me is we seem to have very little guile to break down teams that sit in and against better teams that do come at us, our defending has looked vulnerable. Croatia cut through us far too easily at times. Our defence doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.
I think it is true that teams grow in tournaments. Spain drew with Cape Verde fcol, Germany lost to Ecuador, etc. No need to panic although there's plenty to work on.Live justly, love mercy, perpetuate generosity, walk humbly.
Nothing to do with being entitled, we've been average at best in the last 2 games. Relieved we have got Congo(who we really should beat) as I thought Senegal could well have beaten us with the way we're playing
Point was made that Spain struggled against Cape Verde. However their defence wasn't threatened. England's defence in contrast looks suspect a better team than Panama would have punished us last night. If as it seems likely we will face Mexico in the last 16 I wouldn't fancy our chances on their home ground in blazing heat and humidity
