Incoming? Bolton centre-half George Johnston
Posted by Earls on 3/6/2026, 7:30:11
On a free, with competition from Plymouth, Bradford and Hearts, according to Luton Today.
Can also play left back, according to this article:
"Upon his return to the pitch, Johnston became a key figure in the backline again and had arguably his best spell in a Bolton shirt over the past few months, whether playing at centre-back or left-back."
I still think that the 'we only sign injured players' line is a big loads of horseshit.
We signed Baptiste, who had a bad record, and then got injured. But people used that as a tool to criticise the board because they were all pissed off about not spending the parachute payments on players. Walsh was another one, but despite his injury record he's been really consistent with his fitness. We signed lots of players under NJ who had bad injury records, who then went on to be consistently available for us.
Odoffin was signed with his health problem, and his injuries were unrelated. And I think after the last 15 games of the season it's clear to see why the recruitment team went ahead with the signing.
Signing AAH is the only other one I can think of.
So essentially we signed one player who had a bad injury record, which continued under us. And signed another player with a decent injury record, who had a minor injury, and he went on to pick up more during the season. So that's two players. Can we all put this myth to bed, now?
Even without that I find that signing hard to contemplate. We really needed something in midfield given what we'd lost that Summer (nothing we could do about that of course).
To sign someone made out of glass into that role and just Liam Walsh besides. That I don't think I'll ever get my head around.
Tbh. I agree with you. I’m hesitate to go over old ground but. We needed sturdy experienced midfielders for the championship. Instead we got one journeyman who’d never settled anywhere. And a bloke made out of Weetabix
By "like one of our recent signings", I only meant that a lot of them seem to spend most of their time injured while they are here.
Like you, although we have made a couple of seemingly ridiculous injury prone signings I don't think we have signed too many of those. Baptiste feels simply inexplicable but not so many others.
But I can't agree on Baptiste, we needed some real strength and quality signed in midfield for that season and only signing him and Walsh is something I just don't get.
If we had signed him plus a top midfielder for the division I could have understood it along the lines you suggest as a squad player.
Actually the injury looks to have been in July 2023 and then in August they gave him a 3 year contract! But he only made 5 appearances last season.Henry Nowak RIP
Transfermarkt (while admittedly rubbish for player values) shows 50 games played this season, including 43 in the league and all 3 playoff matches.
I know recruitment has been hit and miss (to say the least) but people are very quick to get all worked up over things which turn out not to be true...
