So just got back from the station after waiting 30 minutes for the underground (met line) which was meant to be running. Told it’s a knock on from the drivers strike …so aslef say it’s the best deal ever offered and accept the other greedy bastards cause mayhem to our capital City once again. Dinner reservation cancelled…hospitality sector once again suffer…yeah but they have to work 4 days a week and only get £80k. What a great job Kahn is doing…. Rant over enjoy the rain…the garden needs it.

I have no idea about the stikes zI dont really follow the news much now.
But a serious question for you do you not think that people like train drivers should earn 80k.?
I would like to see all people who have responsibility for the public earn good money.
You have said you are for capitalism, is there any difference between a train driver getting 80k or a city worker or salesperson getting 80k.
I know who out of those 3 I think should earn the most.

It's not primarily about money. TfL want to introduce a voluntary 4-day week for tube drivers (a 4-day week is something you'd presumably be against with your history of posting from the wrong side of the tracks), but the RMT members are worried that it would become mandatory, and are worried that working longer hours per shift mean driver fatigue. The RMT are, in fact, striking to ensure future passenger safety. I would imagine that everybody - apart from the current me me me generation - would fully support that.

Your problem is with the RMT, not with Khan. This is at The Daily Mail/Express/GB News level of argument based on flawed information. ASLEF have accepted the proposals some time ago. The RMT are more interested in their Station Staff members and are badly led since Mick Lynch retired.

Weird innit.
Can’t remember him blaming fatty boom boom for the strikes in his day in office.
I wonder it it’s his colour.
Even weirder he supports the 6 fingered farmers causing chaos.
Strange times.

From a post this morning.
"The NHS strikes which were costing us more than what they were asking for?"
Sorry, I had no idea you needed this much help.
Re: Tubes
Posted by Terry in the office on 2/6/2026, 18:12:15, in reply to "Re: Tubes"
Sorry, you're going to have to help me here.
Was it the Resident Doctors strike they solved? (About to go on strike for the 16th time in recent years)
Or, maybe the nurses strike? (Going to have a vote on further strike action after rejecting their latest pay offer)
Pray tell.
Re: Tubes
Posted by MG on 2/6/2026, 22:44:28, in reply to "Re: Tubes"
They did solve the original strikes. Whether you like it or not. The reason we are here is because the NHS has been so badly managed.
They know it, you know it, we all know it.
Re: Tubes
Posted by bodger1 on 3/6/2026, 10:44:30, in reply to "Re: Tubes"
No it does not count with silly bollox.
If they ever strike again in the future that’s void.
Honestly it’s like a dealing with the Addams family.
Re: Tubes
Posted by bodger1 on 2/6/2026, 20:12:49, in reply to "Re: Tubes"

Asking for a friend.

Re: Tubes
Posted by Terry in the office on 2/6/2026, 22:15:15, in reply to "Re: Tubes"
Clearly they didn't solve the strikes. As I stated, Doctors are about to strike for the 16th time.
Secondly, I can't imagine for one moment that you have a friend. Possibly it's the voices in your head again?

Jeez …of course they have…they gave them what they want. Anyone can do that….but of course they keep coming back as they know they are weak….still what’s a few more million to the tax payer…we can tax the rich more…oh bollox they have all fooked off. Genius….
Re: Tubes

FFS, it's the first time these people have gone on strike in history. That really ought to strike home with even you.

Re: Tubes
Posted by The Questioner on 2/6/2026, 9:52:32, in reply to "Re: Tubes"
We have @ 10m on benefits who can work …we should be able to fill the gaps. Assuming you had children did you ever say no to them…
Re: Tubes
Posted by Doctor Ince on 2/6/2026, 11:30:03, in reply to "Re: Tubes"
Wouldn't even need to fill the gaps. Just move to an automated system like other countries have. Genuinely don't know why we haven't. Would save millions and mean that we're not beholden to Unions to be able to get round London
Re: Tubes
Posted by Caught Jester on 2/6/2026, 15:26:08, in reply to "Re: Tubes"

Would cost minimum 20 billion to do just three lines and that's just estimates. To complete the whole network circa 70 billion, plus it will take at least 25-40 years to complete. This has been look at time and time again and it's just not possible.
Re: Tubes
Posted by MG on 2/6/2026, 10:20:00, in reply to "Re: Tubes"
You do realise that about 40% of those 10 million on benefits are actually working. Largely because we don't pay people enough to live on?
You do realise that a similar number can't work or are parents of young children?
And you do know we have employment laws . . . right?
Re: Tubes
Posted by The Questioner on 2/6/2026, 10:42:17, in reply to "Re: Tubes"
You do know if many of those working got paid the £80k the tube drivers receive they wouldn’t need benefits….
We have a fucked up country which can no longer afford the benefits being paid. It’s going to get worse as wealthy people leave to live elsewhere.
We can’t afford the NHS and we can’t afford the amount of benefits we pay. It has to change otherwise we will become a third world country.
Re: Tubes
Posted by MG on 2/6/2026, 10:55:27, in reply to "Re: Tubes"
As the mighty bodger points out your stance seems a little inconsistent.
The rich people can leave if they want, they can't take their assets with them . . .
We could afford these things if so much of the tax take wasn't going on debt plus private profits and those rich people were paying something more like a fair share.
Re: Tubes
Posted by The Questioner on 2/6/2026, 18:16:10, in reply to "Re: Tubes"
What are you talking about …of course they can take their assets with them. I have two unrelated clients who t/y ‘25 paid £5m in tax , they have now moved to Portugal and we won’t get any of that money. We also won’t get the money they spent on cars , houses , staff etc.
I haven’t worked it out precisely but a rough estimate that’s the equivalent of 1000 people earning £30k . Of those 1000 people a large amount of them will almost certainly be receiving something from the state…education, nhs , childcare allowance , benefits etc.
It will be very interesting to see the recent breakdown of recent immigration/ emigration numbers….I have a sneaky suspicion we are going to come out of it very badly.

Re: Tubes
Posted by The Questioner on 3/6/2026, 11:40:20, in reply to "Re: Tubes"
No I did read it and I do accept that Henley have a vested interest in people moving funds offshore as have worked with them in the past and have an ongoing case with them atm.
I can only speak about what I am seeing along with colleagues and I have never seen such interest , more than when the Labour government moved income tax to 50%. Maybe it’s a mixture of things but I believe we are losing people who positively contribute to our tax burden and replacing them with people who are more likely to be a drain. We are already in a negative position and it will get worse imo.
Just for balance below and the piece you posted is of course sponsored by people who don’t want wealthy people to leave.

United Arab Emirates (UAE) The UAE continues to dominate wealth migration tables for its combination of zero personal income tax, world-class infrastructure, and globally respected residency schemes. Dubai in particular offers high-end real estate, international schools, and Golden Visa options for long-term stability.
Are you seriously trying to tell me that all of those leaving are doing so solely because of Labour taxation when that’s on offer?
