Championship .Non league play offs
Posted by Nick NBH on 31/5/2026, 21:50:20
Basically (non league - i presume chamionship is similar) - 6 teams in the play offs and "pre qualifier legs" for the lower placed teams.
I can see the point of it in the conference with 2 up 2 down. Not so much in the championship when it isn't in l1 or l2 (would have been quite handy last season of course).
Of course could just say fuckit and if you arnet in the relegation or auto promotion places everyone enters into and end of season knock out for promotion.
Sorry - just had a few glasses of wine & a couple glasses brandy.....but for the 6 team option presumably no automatic promotion places just the top 6 play off against each other? No money spinning play off final for the EFL? Otherwise 3 teams qualifying for the play off final to be played on a triangular pitch with a goal in each corner - team conceeding least goals promoted?
Six team version is coming in next season in the Championship. There will now be different rules for each of the top four divisions where play-offs apply,
Championship - 3rd to 8th L1 - 3rd to 6th L2 - 4th to 7th NL - 2nd to 7th
Clubs who finish in second and third go straight into the semi-final stage and are guaranteed a one-legged home tie for a place in the Promotion Final.
Teams finishing fourth to seventh battle it out in Eliminators for the right to play in the semi-final stage.
In Eliminator A, the side who finished in fifth playing the side who finished in sixth and in Eliminator B, the fourth-place team play the seventh-place team.
Winners of Eliminator A then advance to play the side who finished second while the winners of Eliminator B move on to face the side who finished third.
