If I had any sympathy for them whatsoever (I don`t) it woudl have vanished as soon as they said their sanction was harsher than our minus 30. So being kicked out of a match they had to then actually win was harsher than effectively being consigned to non league..
A specific rule on spying pre match - they would have been aware and did it anyway - 3 times they have admitted to. I don`t think anyone is in an doubt it was a lot more than that.
There was an issue in the time it took for the punishment to be decided - by that time southampton fans had probably pre bought non refundable tickets (maybe not too many of them as its a short journey). Bigger issue woudl be for the middlesborough fans who now have 48 hours to get match tickets, train tickets, hotels potentially, and woudl have missed the "discount" window .
Southampton say they knew they have broken trust and journey starts today to win it back. Given the manager, possiby the players, and you` suggest the club hierachy knew about it not sure how they are goign to "win it back". They arent sorry. They are sorry they got caught and paid for it as they should have done
