    2 matches have been played on this day. The first was 60 years ago tonight, in 1966, when we beat Barrow 3-2 in our last home game of the season to keep the dream of promotion from the Fourth Division alive going in to the last 2 games of the season.

    The other game was only 2 years ago, and was our last match in the Premier League. A 4-2 home defeat to Fulham bought the end to what had been a hard fought effort to maintain our status at the top League in English football. However, from February onwards injuries took their toll on the squad (particularly at the back) and the difficult task of staying up proved not to be.

    Only one player has been born on this day and that was Billy Corkindale 125 years ago, in 1901.

    No player has made his debut on this day.
