    Former Luton defender

Wolves' technical director Matt Jackson was also asked if the board are planning to bankroll the club's Championship rebuild.
He replied: "Everyone here would think it would be irresponsible of us to reveal our exact financial position, but we know a team getting relegated with parachute payments can be competitive in the Championship. Likewise, we will be competitive - for sure.”

Not always Matt, very rarely the incompetence can overcome the parachute payments

Particularly if the manager is Rob Edwards

Please remember that it’s a parachute tax, not a parachute payment.

Yes. The reasons it should be considered a tax were laid out clearly and in detail in Sweet and Wilkinson’s comprehensive programme notes on this topic.

Never did see that, what was it all about?

They each called parachute payments “a parachute tax” in successive home programmes, with zero explanation as to why it’s a tax.

I can't remember exactly what they said, but I think I read it as something along the lines of "clubs and agents try to add a premium onto transfer fees and wages because they know we have the parachute payments and want to take advantage". So not that the payments themselves were a tax, but how other people tried to treat us as a result was like a tax.

Apparently parachute payments are a terrible “tax” when players, agents and other clubs want a bigger slice of the money.

Less of a problem, though, when executive pay rises alongside the same parachute income.

Southampton and Ipswich seemed to do quite well with it.

I never said that we handled it well. Earls said there was "zero explanation", so I gave my understanding of what they meant, that's all.

Which is fair. My failing memory was that the subtext was that mean agents were trying to extort money from our parachute payment, not that GS and DW were stating it as “fact”.

Have you considered paying your tenner and asking the trust?

Who would have the temerity to ask a logical and fair question such as this.
