Hatters Heritage - On this day

    Matches played: https://hattersheritage.co.uk/matches?played-today=yes&sort=date-desc

    Born today: https://hattersheritage.co.uk/players?born-today=yes&sort=date-active

    Debuted today: https://hattersheritage.co.uk/players?debut-today=yes&sort=date-active

Today’s date has only featured in the Hatters fixture list since 1982 (reflecting the longer seasons over the last 44 years) with our last match being 3 years ago in the final regular League fixture of the season at home to Hull City. 5 days later we would be playing in the Championship play offs and we all know where that would lead.

For fans who wish to understand the animosity raised by the thought of playing and visiting MK Dons next season you may wish to click the link to the Hull City match programme and read pages 24, 25 & 27 of the publication, which sets out the history as to why many Hatters supporters feel they are unable to “embrace” that club.

2 players have been born on this day. The first is our Littlewoods Cup goalkeeping hero from 1988 Andy Dibble, who was born in 1965. The other player is Brett Longden who was born in 1994.

3 players have made their debut on this day. The first two players made their debut in a Division One (now Championship) game away at Stoke City, on the same day as Brett Longden was born, with Kelvin Davis making his first start in goal and Paul McClaren coming off the substitutes bench to make his bow in a Hatters shirt. The last player to make his debut was Don Pereira, who made his only League appearance for us 5 years ago in 2021, as a 86th minute substitute (his other 2 games for us were both in the League Cup)

For those who may not know how to access the Hull City link on the Hatters Heritage website you are able to do so by clicking on the “View Match” box (from the relevant fixture in the list of matches played on this day) and then by clicking on the word “programme”.
