If Labour had any sense they would have let Burnham stand for MP as a plan B for the leadership. But Starmer blocked him and will cling on to power come what may, and it will cost them the general election. If events somehow lead to Starmer walking I imagine Rayner is waiting to take over, which will also cost them the next general election.
