After yesterday’s disappointment (although I agree that over the season we didn’t deserve playoffs), my son and I had a great time in Carlisle today with 305 other Boreham Wood fans (we live there and go when there’s no Luton). There were 13,500 home fans who thought they were all but through to the final before a ball was kicked.
The Wood were superb. Carlisle were inexplicably passive in the first half but the real turning point was a red card for them about 10 minutes into extra time. Carlisle completely fell apart - in a way you don’t normally see when down to 10 men nowadays - and Wood blew several chances before scoring the winner just into the second half of ET. Saw out the game pretty easily to spark great scenes among the 307.
Looking forward to another trip to Wembley next week. But most of all, in what other country would you get nearly 14,000 at a fifth tier game?
