    Saleable assets?

Posted by Nick NBH on 3/5/2026, 9:54:29

Hopefully we can move a few on so the balance sheet for wages is mor generous

Ones I think we can get money for:
    Yates
    Alli
Brown (albeit not much but gets him off the wage bill)
    Nordas (but ideally keep)
    Makosso

On the basis that we gave 4 year contracts to those we signed for money in the PL - these might have another year left
    Mengi
    Mads

    Out of contract
    Clark
    Walsh
    Elijah
    Holmes (hopefully)

4 year deals are the new 3 year deal. 3 year deals are the new 2 year deal. I think it'll probably surprise a few who is still under contract.

If Elijah is still under contract then I’ll be very happy.

Still don’t know why people want Nordas.

His first touch is awful and clearly doesn’t fit into JW’s style of play. I wonder if we send Cole out on loan for the season too.

I think if brown does have a year left we’ll pay up his contract.
A back two of Odoffin and Mengi would be very decent.

Have a feeling clicker and Walsh will sign new contracts. Elijah would be great, but I cant see that happening.

Agree on Nordas, hus biggest asset seemed to be nuisance value, other than that not sure what he offers.

I agree with you about Nordas, I've not really seen anything from him that makes me think he could tear up this division.

In all likelihood we will probably have to shift every striker, Nordas, Cole, Al-Hamadi, Yates, Eli and Wells and start again!

              I’d keep wells and AAH.
I know most people have lumped AAH into the bad signing category, but guaranteed he’d go to another club and be successful if we don’t sign him.0

I tend to agree with Sandgrounder below. A huge gamble if the figures of £2/3M are to be believed.

I think there is a player there but not at the figures being bandied around.

Keep AAH at what cost though? Because the fee to sign him will be over £2M at least. Can we risk that for what he’s shown. I agree he could do well elsewhere, but I’d let someone else take that risk

Actually not so sure on that. Since they went up yesterday and he isnt in their plans, they may be happy to release him with a sell on clause

People only wanted him because he looked a little more likely to cause opponents problems than our other strikers at the time.

Certainly did more than Cole . . .

‘Certainly did more than Cole . . .‘

He did after he left us, but not sure he did when he was here.
Cole holds it up better than Nordas IMO, he just needs to learn how to kick the ball 😁

                    Sorry, I totally disagree.

I remember Nordas bursting through against Watford getting the Watford player booked (borderline red), never seen Cole do anything like that.

                    I've seen Nordas score for us . . .

I've seen Nordas win headers and make challenges.

And since then obviously what he's done in Dutch football suggests that those glimpses of potential had some foundation.

All that said, it's obvious from what he was doing at Port Vale that Cole is a much more capable player than we have seen. So often it is difficult for a player to come into a side in January and adapt to everything. Suspect that's what we are seeing here.

With stricter financial rules there will be a lot of end of contract free agents. I am sure we have no saleable assets apart from pin money to make it look good.
Our biggest problem is any players on PL or championship money are going to hold us back, panic signings will have been expensive in wages so these players won't move on for a wage reduction.
Apart from Richards Odfin and Morris all our permanent signings have been not good enough and are going to hold us back for a few seasons as we can't lose them easily. Once again the team will need an overhaul which we haven't done well enough for the last few years.
