Bolton thread on team to play

Posted by Nick NBH on 27/4/2026, 21:04:24

For some reason they all want to play as strong as they can and not let us in the play offs as they think that will end badly

If I were them I'd want to play Stevenage over us or Plymouth. But Bradford would be my number 1 choice as they are on a downward spiral and frankly fairly fortunate to be where they are.

They haven't looked at our record in play-offs - with one notable exception of course.

Footballers want to play and win matches. Win bonuses, goal / clean sheet bonuses etc at stake
Only bozo football fans think they should be sat about ‘resting’

Imagine the positions were reversed . There are certain players you may want to wrap up in cottonwool. You certainly wouldn`t want to risk injuries or suspensions to a few. But equally you wouldt make wholesale changes. You`d maybe want to give a couple of youth teams players league debuts

I remember when we rested players at home to Man Utd in the cup because we had Watford on the Saturday. And lost both. And imo cost players the chance to test themselves against a top side

Have they seen our away from.

I think they could rip us one, they are better than Barnsley and the players they had were causing us plenty on sat

I'm guessing you've watched football for a few years based on the demographic that frequents this board. So you must know that football doesn't work like that

Have they seen our away from.

Our away form over the last six games (12 points) is better than their home form (10 points).

Not sure about Bolton but our last 6 away games have hardly been the toughest

Bolton's last six homes - ten points

                          Blackpool 2-2
                          Wycombe 3-2
                          Doncaster 0-0
                          Stockport 2-2
                          Stevenage 5-1
                          Huddersfield 3-3

We got 16 points against those teams at home.

Our last six away games with Bolton's results in the equivalent fixtures.

                          Port Vale 1-1 (lost 1-0)
                          Doncaster 1-1 (drew 1-1)
                          Wycombe 2-1 (lost 2-1)
                          Wimbledon 3-0 (won 1-0)
                          Mansfield 2-2 (won 1-0)
                          Rotherham 2-0 (drew 2-2)

Bolton got eight points from those "hardly the toughest" fixtures compared to our twelve.

All I was saying is that regardless of Bolton's results our recent uptick in away performance has been against the lesser teams. If we beat Bolton I believe it will be the first away win against a top 6 side.
