So that’s the end of our playoff hopes in fairness with our terrible away form combined with the worst strikers in the league we don’t deserve to be in the playoffs, Stevenage are a horrible side to but they are consistent a big strong physical side who might even win the playoffs, but I can honestly see the 3 promoted teams from league 1 going straight back down again Luton would be eaten alive in the championship.

Stevenage result today has as good as ended any play off hopes. If they lose at Bolton Tues and we beat Northampton we are 3 points behind, I guess that puts a bit of pressure on them, but it looks unlikely now.

Stevenage winning today was the worst result out of any of the others - which were actually very favourable. We are now in prime position to take 7th!!!!
Realistically it doesn't look like Stevenage will be dropping many more points which means it's up to Bolton, Bradford, and/or Stockport to go on a losing streak. Realistically I gave up on the play offs after the Reading defeat but whilst it's still a mathematical possibility I just cant ignore it. Stranger things have happened but granted, it is now very unlikely as it means us winning all of ours.
However, we've won our last 2 away games - unbeaten in 3 in fact so our away form isn't as terrible as you suggest. And I also don't get this whole, "we don't deserve to be in the play-offs" way of thinking. If we end up with the 6th best points tally of teams in this division then we absolutely would deserve it - especially seeing the standard of so many clubs is so poor. Stevenage have very little quality; they're big and strong, reminding me of the old Wimbledon lump it into the box and hope to get a lucky ricochet or bounce - and that's exactly how they scored today. We;re better at football than that and them. They are just better at getting results than us, and it's a results based thing. Live justly, love mercy, perpetuate generosity, walk humbly.

Had the same thoughts.
The SB result today was a killer and the teams above we are very unlikely to catch.
Mid week we need to better their result to have a small chance.

Yep, clawing back 6 points over 5 games is very unlikely, table doesn't lie

The standard of the sides currently occupying 3rd to 6th (from what I've seen) is shit
Which just goes to show what a massive fuck up (again) this season has been
However, we still have one last chance - if Bolton and Luton win in midweek it is back on. Huddersfield dropping points would also be helpful

Yeah but a crane.
I'd given up on the playoffs a while ago. And this evening is the first time I've looked at the table in weeks. I really don't get how so many simpletons got excited about making them lately.
I'm sure we'll all go through this seasons failings(and it'll be one of , if not THE biggest failure in our history) once the chance of promotion is gone in a few weeks time.
But, I'm more than happy to forget all that tomorrow. We're going to Wembley, very few clubs can say that, I'm going to enjoy it(apart from the 4am alarm clock!) , have a good catch up and laugh with mates and spend the afternoon with my 2 lads watching us win and lift a trophy.
Have a beer, relax, enjoy the occasion. Jack has got this.

Agree with all that except that the last TWO seasons have been the biggest failures in our history
I've never really been on the play-off train but if Stevenage had dropped points today it was definitely on. And might be again f results go perfectly in the week
But we need 13 points minimum from the last 5 games. I can't see that happening somehow

You think getting relegated from the PL was the worst failing in our history?

Remember in summer 2023 all the talk was of ‘planning for the 2024/25 Championship season’? How did that one work out?

Tbf I think most people thought we’d built a squad that would do well the next season.

Re: All over

- Edward’s unraveling and the board (understandably imo, but also I get people not having it) not doing something about it sooner. - Players getting their heads turned. - a general downward spiral - poor recruitment (although with the players we had we should still have been nowhere near the relegation zone. - And perhaps the whole club not taking the threat of going down seriously enough until it was too late.

Re: All over

I’m guessing you think it’s down to one person. I don’t. I think sometimes there’s a perfect storm. The board didn’t get a grip on it, but for me one season of regression doesn’t negate 10 seasons of the opposite.

Apologies. Got the wrong end of the stick.
No denying last season was a catastrophic failure. This season is a big underachievement, but I think the task of rebuilding the squad and shifting the high earners, and all that entails, has been underestimated by a lot of people.

No need to apologise. I wasn't clear
Whichever way you look at it, not making the play-offs (we might, yet, of course but unlikely) in League 1 with parachute payments is total and complete failure
But it should be a good day tomorrow and I am starting work late on Monday so I'll enjoy the beers and catching up with people, who I haven't seen in a while

Oh, I'm with you on the last 2 seasons. It's even more pathetic now we've seen the millions wasted on the accounts.
The failings of the club and individuals involved is more than alarming, yet there are still plenty that are blind to it.
Like I said though, tomorrow is something to enjoy. After 2 years of absolute shite, us supporters deserve a positive, even if it is only for 1 day.
The dissection of who or what is to blame goes out of the window for 24 hours IMO.

Yes, the gap is quite big know and Stevenage nailed it with a win today. We can say all we like about them but they know how to keep it tight and sneak a goal , we have generally known how to keep it loose and until recently strikers where not scoring. Shame we don't play them to add a little spice , we need to win every game and hope they loose a couple. Not even a 1 percent change.

I didn't take that much notice of them until they were promoted from the Conference and started boasting how much they enjoyed being above us.
