Squad for next season
Posted by Sandgrounder on 8/3/2026, 10:26:41
Who will actually be here? We’ll probably need to sign half a squad just from a numbers perspective. Can see only the following being here next season. Can see Naismith being paid off, though given the lack of defenders that are likely to be in contract maybe he will stay.
For Lonwijk and AAH it was phrased as an obligation to buy depending on certain criteria being met. I hope to God we haven’t met them. Same for VDB - ‘conditional obligation to buy’ (from official site, not ‘contractual’ as stated above by Doctor Ince).
Fair enough, thanks. I feel for VDB, he has the same shellshocked look Tom Krauss had. Great sub debut, hasn’t really been able to do much since. Hopefully he can get it together soon. I quite like Lonwijk, thought he had a good game Wednesday and yesterday.
I think Yates will get sold on, that Nordas will stay and - perhaps naively - that Adebayo will stay. I’d add Andersen too. I also fear we’re not keeping both Keeley and Richards.
Nordas will want to go back to Europe (don’t blame him). Maybe his recent couple of goals will help us shift Yates. Don’t think we can offer a new contract to Andersen when he is such a sick note. Hope Adebayo stays but can’t see it. I think we’ll have another season of Keeley and Richards.

If wells does not retire, someone should fucking make him.
Adebayo might stay if we were still a tight knit, harmonic team, a well-oiled machine. But today we’re not. We’re highly unprofessional at every level and I fear it isn’t too much fun to be in the locker room. He did well in the Premier League so some Championship clubs will be very interested.
Not sure Adebayo will have clubs queuing up, he's had a career threatening injury, clubs aren't stupid, he would be a big risk for any championship club.
Very rare you pick up a striker who’s scored double figures in the PL with his physical attributes for free. And he’s not exactly old. He’ll easily get a championship move if he wants one. Maybe not upper end but he’ll have multiple offers. Yea how he’ll be after injury is an unknown but there’ll be more than one club willing to take the risk. And his wages won’t be massive by championship standards.
