74 years ago, in 1952, we beat Swindon Town 3-1 at home in the 5th Round of the FA Cup to reach the quarter finals for only the second time (out of 8) in our history. 35 years ago, in 1991, we beat Liverpool by the same score at home, in what was to be Ronny Morgan’s first game in charge of them, following the shock resignation of Kenny Dalglish as their manager.
2 players have been born on this day, the first was Jack Lornie in 1939. The other player is a local legend who I first became aware of when his dad, Mick, used to coach my youngest son’s team in the Chiltern Youth League. He occasionally would bring his son along to their training sessions and, although 6 years younger, he then would run rings round them !! Born in 1998 happy 28th birthday to James Justin.
4 players have made their debut on this day. The first was Harvey McCreadie (no not Eddie’s brother Roger 😂 whose one and only appearance was in 1960. This was followed by Alan Neilson in 2002, Wayne Thomas in 2013 and last year (in the Watford derby at Vicarage Road) Christ Makosso.

The article in the Notts County programme by Brian Swain is an interesting read, which was only a few days after the Kohlerdrome had been refused and the subsequent decision by David Kohler to resign. That decision was made because the then Secretary of State for the Environment, John Prescott, had decided that most Road schemes would be scrapped, including widening the M1 to 4 lanes south of Luton. Since the Planning Inspector who oversaw the Public Inquiry only felt that Junction 10 could cope with the increased traffic going to the proposed ground if this work was carried out that scuppered the scheme. A few years later the Labour Party reversed that decision and the 4 lanes were built. How history might have been, but for that original policy switch ?.

That match report is like deja vu happening all over again.

So a predictive text change leads to Ronny Morgan managing Liverpool, not Ronny Moran.
