    Substitutions yesterday

Posted by Doctor Ince on 19/2/2026, 7:01:58

    Baffling.

Wigan doing well, make changes and are dominating the game and a goal is clearly coming.

Wilshere lines up some subs, they score and then he waits 10 mins to make changes??

    Amateur hour

      A goal is clearly coming?

I thought they could have played until next week and neither team would have scored.

Really? After his earlier two chances, it was when not if Taylor scored.

Let's just say if you thought that was "when not if" rather than a generous "maybe" we saw it very differently.

Fact is it was a rare moment of quality in a desert of mediocrity from both teams.

I was yelling “Make a fucking sub!” about five minutes before they scored, as they were getting in the ascendancy and we looked like we had nothing to offer. Poor as their scoring record was, they’d started to create a fair few chances and half-chances in the second half.
And Taylor being the scorer was pure #narrative against his old club. (Interesting that even Sky’s commentator repeatedly said Taylor left under a cloud…)

Fair enough, I guess the fact that he did score is inarguable.

And don't get me wrong I thought we were dire and subs should have come on earlier, if for no other reason than to set down a marker to the players.

But I didn't think we looked that uncomfortable that a goal was in any way inevitable. Possible yes, but I thought it had 0-0 written all over it. At least I was half right I guess

I gotta say, I thought the goal was inevitable. Although they weren't peppering our goal they were well in the ascendancy and we looked absolutely terrified.

Taylor showed the class some of us have always said he had. Compare the way he took that to the tame efforts of Wells at various points of the season, e.g. Plymouth away.

It was a classy finish and it was evidence as to why we should have used him more last season when we spurned chance after chance.

He has become somewhat of a joke “saviour” figure on here but his record out on three loans has been outstanding.

He also “scored” twice at Wembley.

People have short memories to support their narrative.

Clearly an issue, Huddersfield soon got shot of him. I believe he had more shots on target in the match then Yates had all season

He's scored at about 1 per 4 EFL appearances.

All of the goals have been scored at a lower level than we were at the time.

We got a decent fee for him. He scored a decent goal last night but overall he's still to prove he is the player you keep making him out to be. And indeed I thought he might be after that Wembley appearance.

Maybe he will prove it in the future . . . but he most certainly hasn't yet.

Fair enough, I thought they looked just as clueless as us, maybe slightly less so but I still can't see what was inevitable about them scoring.

If those performances were reversed I guarantee you that most people would have been saying that we were never going to score.

I felt they'd threatened a few times with Taylor getting in and we hadn't made any attempt to stop it.

Plus they'd put a few difficult balls in that Andersen and Nige (in his onyl good moment) did well to deal with.

We could be playing until Saturday and wouldn't have scored though

Baffling as fuck why he took so long to freshen up, particularly considering he was going to do it anyway.

My heart goes out to those who continue to travel currently. Soul destroying.

Just laughable really. It was plainly obvious after 55/60 that it just wasn’t happening with that set up.

Al Hamadi, Palmer and Jones needed replacing.

Even when he got them ready it was too late and then there was that odd ten minute wait. It was a shambles.

Compared to an experienced manager next to him that was giving instructions, coaching, changing and ultimately impacting the game to go on and win.

Amateur hour - backed by an amateur board, an amateur CEO playing at the football side and a rookie manager. Desperate.

I felt sorry for palmer. Only midfielder we had on the pitch against 4 of theirs.

Clark anonymous and is never and has never been a cm in a two. Jones almost the opposite of his actual position. Richards a good player but young and isolated on the right.

Agreed re Richard’s on the right, ridiculous.

We actually look even lighter in central midfield than we did under Bloomfield, which is some doing.

Don't need to be a coach to understand that Wilshere was wrong. Not looking good, another failed appointment.

It was pretty farcical which really summed up everything about last night. Wilshire didn't seem able to affect the game when we we under the cosh in the second half.

Didn't help that our players visibly wilted under the Wigan onslaught. Some of them clearly hid which is a fucking massive concern.

Agreed, considering we were led to believe the deadwood had left the building, the amount of overpaid wankers that went missing last night at the first sign of a battle was unreal.

I've kept insisting JW is the right man for the job but now I'm really not so sure. His inability to change tactics or use subs correctly is concerning to say the least.

I'm also a firm believer of the way a team plays mirrors the managers attitude. And JW stood there cold, not looking interested, completely lacking in passion sums up our recent away performances.

He looked like a deer in the headlights. I sometimes think there is too much emphasis on how a manager behaves on the sidelines but I just thought he looked totally lost last night.

I would imagine he is asking himself some soul searching questions this morning.
