A lot of people are doing the same. Someone said to me once you get to about 55 you’ve just had enough of work and it just becomes a slog
Only caveat is , you need to make sure you’ve got enough things to do to fill the time , particularly this time of year when the weathers crap

Don't worry about not being busy, there's those jobs and projects you never got round to, if you have kids and grand kids they will keep you busy plus join the national trust English heritage or a zoo pass plenty to do, I also got myself a bass guitar I'm pretty shit at it but ideal for bad weather days, happy retirement to you

Sounds ideal. A lot of people obsess about money. Don’t leave it until you are too old to go and enjoy it.

Best bit of advice on this as far as I'm concerned.

One of my best friends at work clung on until he as 70. He died of a heart attack a month after he finally retired.

Clearing his desk out I found the tickets he had booked for him and his wife for what he had previously told me was their dream cruise to the Norwegian Fjords.

It certainly informed my decision making.

You still carrying all the extra weight? losing that would be your best decision to make, couple of my friends have died of late all carried extra weight - you can only abuse the body so long. Kick up my arse that was for sure. 15 kg down this year.

That is so sad, but I agree 100%. Poor fella worked his socks off and then he passes away

Thats why im doing 10 more years until im 60 then im out.

Work is important, but you also earn the right to live some of your older years.

Average male life expectancy is 69.

It’s madness to continue to 67 but I understand many can’t afford to retire.

It’s a very serious topic as you said 50% roughly won’t be around at 67 sadly.

Where do you get your figures from? Surely life expectancy is far higher than that.

                            My figure is way off.

I read it again and it’s healthy life not mortality.

                            Blackpool 73.

                            Luton 78.

My cousin died last November at 59 and I know many more that have gone.

                            I stand corrected.

I think there are some figures that show people retiring at 67 only live an average of 18 months or something like that so you could be partially correct.

The actuarial age is a lot higher because that will include all the public sector workers who retire at 45 on a full pension….just joking Bodger 😁

                                Old login failure.

My experience of hearing or knowing folk dying early is shocking if that figure is true.

We’ve lost a few on this board who were in the 60s.

Is that just me or the experience you have?

I struggle to believe that figure but I have only my own experiences to contradict it.

Ahh fair….could have been a lot worse !!

I think I read it somewhere but just looked and nothing to substantiate it. Retirement imo is a difficult decision even if you know you have enough money. Plenty of clients I have struggled with it …think the sense of not being “needed “ anymore.
