    Play offs

Posted by Sandgrounder on 24/1/2026, 14:53:16

Absolutely no chance unless the squad significantly improves in the next week. If we’re relying on the return of injured players to be our ‘new signings’ and difference makers then it’s basically the club saying they’ve given up on the season.

Successful relegations from the PL to division 3 has only been done 3 times before as we all know.

Failing to at least make the play offs in the 3rd division in season 3 has NEVER been done before. Luton Town, always setting new standards.

Wether we'll make the playoffs is touch and go, I'm less and less confident with every wanky away performance I see.

If by a miracle we do makemit, then we'll get embarrassed in the away leg and that will be it.

Of course there is a chance we will make the play-offs.

          Don't be ridiculous.

Well yes, the statistical probability of us making the play offs is not zero right now.

But if we continue to play like we are playing away from home and continue with glaring weaknesses in the squad, it is very, very, very unlikely. I’m certain we don’t make them unless there are big changes. If I’m wrong, then great.

Seriously, we are three points off them?

I think we still have a reasonable chance and compared to how we were playing before Christmas there are enough signs.

Maybe it is just 30-40% chance but saying "absolutely no chance" is way OTT.

We won’t make them unless there is a significant turnaround in the away form - why will that happen?

Kodua was doing well as a number 10, now he is out on the wing where he affects games less.

Kodua and Clark are our only reliable goal threats (see above)

The team still lacks pace and physicality and is playing a style of football that doesn’t suit the players or league, especially away from home.

Home form has been better but that won’t be enough by itself.

No, we are three points off the playoffs with awful away form . . . it doesn't have to improve that much to make up three points over twenty odd games.

I'm not saying there aren't big problems etc, just trying to retain some semblance of proportion.

              Play offs?

Give yer head a wobble if you think we'd beat any of the current top 10 teams over 2 legs.

As I’ve said we’ve found our level and the board are happy with that. Never mind the football feel the property development.

Why does shit like this get repeated ?
When everyone's favourite CEO GS said we believe we can get to the Premier League, it was mocked... we then went and got there.
Do you really believe the board, GS included actually want us to be at this level ?
All the way through our rise to the top, if we stalled at any point, this 'no ambition' bollox was trotted out.
Now, as we fuck our way up back down the divisions, here it is again....
"This is where the board want us to be"

Not a football club but a development company. If you think it’s nothing to do with the way the club is being run thats your privilege. I’ve come to a different conclusion based on the last 2 years.

Fair enough, that development company was also involved in taking us from Non league to Premier League which I feel should be applauded.
The eye has definitely been taken off the ball since that promotion which has led to this mess, but I can't shake the belief that the new ground is key to this clubs survival in modern football.

There certainly won’t be any new strikers arriving, and I suspect, a few departures we’d rather avoid.

Not quite good enough for play offs.
For me, its the defence and defending the issue.
If you know your back line is sound, you can afford risks in attack, long shots, quick passes etc.
Passing around the back, poor decision making, ie passing to a player with opposition tight marking,
Gift passing ( anderson) but also others.
Had a real chance, but blew it, not catching four above us. subs too late, again.
Kodua as a striker could work

Our only chance to save the season as it looks right now is somehow lucking ourselves into the playoffs and Adebayo coming back in god mode. But knowing Wilshere, he might still play Yates ahead of him.
