    Physical verses mental....

Listened to a podcast the other day featuring a player from the 1980's, he said he didn't want to let on when he was injured and would play when far from 100 percent fit as he was concerned that if he dropped out the starting 11 he wouldn't get his place back and that would be more damaging to his mental health

I know the game has moved on but great sides from the past used 14 or 15 players in a season that included all the cup competitions and European games on pitchs that were often mud baths , has the reliance on sports science gone to far particularly in the lower leagues. If like Chelsea or Man City you can have squads of 25 full internationals I guess rotation isn't a problem but when it breaks momentum and the rotation leads to lower quality starting 11's it seems madness
