On a completely different note, is this a scam?

Posted by Godders on 7/10/2025, 15:33:42

I just had a call from +441202165537 claiming yo be from O2. It sounded very legit but told me I needed a new SiM card (talking of which firs anyobe know how he is. Last i heardhecwas very poorly but that was manymonths ago). They went in to say that my current SiM was being made obsolete shortly and that tomorrow ill receive a new one. That sounded dodgy, but then they sent me a couple of texts claiming to be from O2 like I have had in the past. So, some things ring true but some things definitely not.

    I hung up.

Best to ring O2 to find out. Even putting the SIM in might be dodgy these days.

Well yes indeed. I challenged the woman on the phone who then passed me over to a bloke. I questioned why they needed to call me about it and why I needed a replacement SiM especially when phones are now going over to digital SiM cards. I didn't mention anything about any other lines on my account and the fact that they never raised them either as an issue made me even more suspicious. Do those othr numbers need new SiMs too?????

Agreed. But it must be really annoying for genuine firms, when everything is assumed to be a scam and therefore ignored.
