    Players expressing themselves

Posted by HuN on 24/8/2025, 10:07:05

Seen it mentioned a few times, and my personal opinion (not that it counts towards much) is that players are held back by either the coaching or the tactical style of play.

Quite a few moans about the sideways/backwards passing (although passing may be too strong a word) which I think doesn't encourage players to be as 'inventive' as they could be.

Yesterday showed touches of how it could be if we let players have a little freedom.

If you pass to your own players , you should need a maximum of 4 passes to get in final 3rd and create a chance
Hard bit seems to be passing to our own players
Quite often because everyone stands still
No movement, no fluidity no structure
Cardiff managed to do it, with relatively new squad
I wonder what they do in training
I wonder what we do in training

I've watched training at the brache . We train well.

Maybe teams work on depriving us of ball

Naismith, McGuinness and Walsh all needlessly gave the ball away in dangerous areas while trying to express themselves. I'd prefer it if they did what the coaches told them

If the players were expressing themselves yesterday, what were they saying?
          'After you, Mr Colwill'
'There's the ball for you Mr Willock'
