Bloomfield

I'm usually very supportive of our managers and rarely criticise.
I know it's early but I have huge doubts over Bloomfield. I think we panicked and bought in a very inexperienced manager who is learning his trade on the job.
I've yet to see any discernable style of play and his managerial style seems incredibly reactive.
Today, Walsh was clearly going to cost us a goal. Maybe hoiking him at 25 mins would have been harsh but surely give him a shower at half-time.
Also, we had no answer to Colwill in midfield. The space he had between the lines for the first forty five was unforgiveable. Makosso and Nigel tried to pick him up at times but then panicked and dropped, Walsh couldn't cope with him and Saville was too far forward.
The sign of a good manager is to adapt to those situations during the game. Bloomfield was frankly hopeless in responding.
Maybe he'll get better over time but at the moment looks totally out of his depth.

Agree RR, but was he promised much more when he agreed to that the job? I've got a feeling he has been done over and will just be the guilty one.' Live for today, not for tommorow '

You can’t blame him not bringing baptiste on for Walsh at half time on 2020

Sounds sensible.
So what would you have done that Bloomfield didn’t?

We are all great managers in hindsight but some of the obvious decisions.
I wouldn't have started Nigel at wing-back. At very best he's a right c/b.
Walsh should have been hooked at half time.
Colwill destroyed us with his positioning. If I'd have been Bloomfield I would have instructed Makosso to man mark him.

It seems a long time that we had a manager who knew how to adapt. Having a game plan and sticking to it come what may has been sadly the norm.

The first time we should not have played 2 up front and we play 2 up front. First half, Cardiff flooded the midfield, with Colwill running the game and he linked up with Willock to get down our right all first half. Longwyk has no forward play so they were comfortable pushing high up.
Walsh continually fucked up all first half but usually 50 yards from from goal so we got away with it. Should have been subbed after 20 mins but no bravery from MB. Should have been subbed at ht but again no bravery. Walsh gave it away for their goal and here we are. Don't destroy the players confidence I hear people saying but ffs he was piss poor so a 20 min sub is fair.
It was a good game for the neutral and don't forget we created lots of chances. I defended us signing a 35 year old Wells as he brought composed finishing. His finishing was awful in the two chances he had first half. But their keeper was superb and maybe he psyched Wells out - the saves from Savile and McGuinness were top draw.
MB and others said it's not a one window fix player wise. That's proving to be correct. January might be profibable for us to tweak it. We must therefore be in touch come Jan. Is MB may not be the manager to take us up? Not looking good at the moment

A final note on Walsh which I mentioned in the Brickies after Tuesday's game. A hand on his shoulder and he's pulled off the ball - "ay ay ref " shouted but it's not enough for a foul but enough for him to lose the ball and take him out of the game. I think that has affected his game - get rid before the physical side arrives. Mr J.C. He's simply nowhere near good enough. Shit signing compounded by two manager playing him.

Spot on. I was screaming at Walsh et al, to get tighter to Colwill, who constantly had acres of space.
It makes you wonder, what the fuck did we work on tactically all week, when we allow their most influential player all that time and space?!!

Walsh is too weak physically to compete against players as good as Colwill.
We really miss Assgaard in that respect.
Just wondering when we are replacing Assgaard because it was clear to see that Cardiff are a better team because they have better creativity and strength than we do.

We won’t be replacing Asgaard in this window. They’ve clearly earmarked Clark to fill that role.
To be honest, I’m more concerned about recruiting a LB and a physical centre forward, to enable us to play 4-3-3.
A goal scoring number 10 would be great, but for me it’s 3rd in list of priorities, as it stands. Keillor Dunn would be perfect, but would require an outlay of a few million, which we won’t pay.

We didn’t panic and bring in an inexperienced manager we just went for the cheapest option.

RR - do you think he has the team "he" wants?
Simple and fair question based on the first five league games.
Re: Bloomfield
Posted by Ramridge Raider on 23/8/2025, 17:13:55, in reply to "Re: Bloomfield "
It's a good question.
Clearly we need another creative midfielder and at least another wing-back.
Two questions though:
1) Does he have the courage and force of personality to drive the Board to make tough financial decisions?
2) Does he have the management ability to make use of two or three quality signings?
I have my doubts on both.
Re: Bloomfield
Posted by Notorious D on 23/8/2025, 17:19:58, in reply to "Re: Bloomfield "
1) Definitely no. His Wigan post match reaction, when asked if there would need to be outgoings, before incomings - ‘probably, ask Gary’.
2) depends if they’re the correct positions, to enable us to go 4-3-3 and get the best out of Milli Alli - head and shoulders above anyone else!

I used the same term today 'head and shoulders,
That's a worry though.

It is; especially if he was to depart by the end of the window. We’d be truly stuffed.

He's got a week to get the team in that he wants / needs.
Otherwise I really fear for him.
Re: Bloomfield
Posted by Cuba on 23/8/2025, 17:20:36, in reply to "Re: Bloomfield "
Agreed, but that doesn't answer the question.
MB knows what works for him but has the "club" given him the players he needs and can use in the way he wants to play.
I can't get my head around the Tovide situation and whether the AAH interest is genuine.
We seem to have to play players because of who they are, today with Bramhall now fit we could have played 4-3-3. Instead he was dropped.
Moreover Yates and Nordas worked for the last 30 minutes on Tuesday but today Wells comes and I don't think he was fully fit.
Odd decisions, likewise playing Nigel and Ali in the wrong places last week.
Not sure MB is happy with his lot.
Re: Bloomfield
Posted by HH on 23/8/2025, 19:23:05, in reply to "Re: Bloomfield "
Maybe.
But as RR says above, how about he has the courage to do something about it?
It wouldn't even need much. Surely he could say posy match 'the club and I know this squad needs a few more additions, and I hope we do that in the final week of the window.'
