Squad numbers

On the thread below: goalkeepers don’t count to the 22. So we’re currently at 21 (if Adebayo isn’t named until January.) Assuming Woodrow wasn’t named on Saturday because he’s off, we could get a LWB and striker in. At a guess, Chong is staying, as Bloomfield has given updates on his injury as if he’s staying. Also, he was part of the club’s media day: strange, if we’re desperate to sell him. Nakamba, however? Doesn’t get mentioned. Again, obviously a guess, but I think paying his contract off might happen. So that would be 20, potentially.

I noticed the other day that Locks is still included on the first team players list on the OS, even though he doesn’t have a squad number. I know we have 100 CBs, but I can’t help thinking that if he is fit and able to play, his return would be such a galvanising thing. I’d be minded to sell MM if there’s money offered, whatever happens to free up a space in the squad.

MB said pre-Wimbledon that Lockyer is still the club captain.

Although he doesn't have a squad number, he is clearly number four, albeit unofficially.
If MM is Mark McGuinness, I absolutely disagree. His consistency - and attitude, imo - were a large part in the good pre-WBA run last season. He was poor v Bradford, but is clearly working his way back to fitness. (I appreciate onions, etc.)

I just think that apart from a few games last season towards the end he’s never really clicked into gear here, and if we were able to recoup a decent amount of the initial fee we paid out, then we have lots of other options.
Whereas I think he at least kept trying under Edwards’ increasingly mad defensive line-ups, and got it together once Bloomfield came. I hear you re the options, which is why I hopep Holmes can go (trier though he is.)

Yeah agree, Holmes has to go. Send him back to reading and pretend he and Hashioka never happened. But I’d still like us to offer Locks a contract.

I thought MM hot better last season.
Clearly he has been very unwell and if speculation is correct that he had Covid, then that.may take a while to recover from.

I agree... He's not blessed with pace but Edwards had him chasing defenders up and down the pitch.
Stick him in the middle at the back and he wins every header. Captain at Cardiff as well so brings leadership.
Only problem is Andersen does exactly the same, so who is better?
Give it a week or 2 and that problem will be solved. History tells us Anderson will be injured very soon. Despite his shocking performance Saturday, McGuiness and Christ should be first picks at the back IMO

Mads and MM in a back four, Naismith becomes surplus to requirements, unless pushed up into defensive mid. We perhaps need to rethink our formation.
I hear you re Naismith, but where would it leave Makosso? He has to play when available, surely?

Ahead of MM right now, when available, at least we'd have competition for a position.

And MMc and Andersen as a back two would mean we'd have to sit so deep Keeley would be in with the fans.

Yeah, true... but with Makosso available that would give us pace to push up. MM, Mads and Makosso, possibly Mengi, is surely good competition for CB

Have a feeling mengi might get sold before the window shuts.

A fit, fighting Mengi is a great defender to have in League One, unfortunately we may not have that Mengi.

He would, but he didn't want to play in the championship so I can't see that he'd want to play a division lower. Fuck him off and get him to take his Carrington mate Chong with him

A fit, fighting, motivated and committed Mengi would smash the 3rd division. However, does he get in the he team, particularly if we move to 4 at the back
