    Confused thinking

Posted by Carrolls Elbow on 16/8/2025, 20:46:05

Didn’t see anything today as was out with family.

    Sounds pretty dire.

What I can’t figure out is what formation MB really wants to play. He said he’s using our 352 as we have the players to do it. We don’t really right now. So surely we’re better off playing a 442 or 433, even if it means playing Naismith and Nige as full backs. We seem to be very confused about how we want to play, especially considering we’ve spent good money on Yates, who isn’t a target man, yet we persist with wing backs who will be trying to put crosses in?

I’m hoping MB is maybe sticking with this for now, meaning will have to play 3CBs on the chance one of them is off, maybe McGuinness?

Defo concerned about Alli, was he lucky to still be on the pitch? Seems to cut a frustrated figure right now.

Makosso Anderson and Mengi (if he's up for it) are nailed on, making Naismith captain was probably a mistake, McGuinnuess is looking more like an expensive mistake every game.
That stupid right hook last week is costing us,
I know I'm stating the obvious.

Extreme optimism if Mengi is up for it. Can see him sold before the window shuts.

Cardiff certainly screwed us proper if we shelled out the multimillion deal rumoured. Chigoze looked better on Tuesday I thought.

It's probably a good idea for Bloomfield to ask McGuiness if he could please refrain from taking ketamine just before kick off mate. And to tell everyone else to stop fucking fannying about with the ball around the opposition's area. Just get a couple of lads in the box and get the ball into them. It's fucking easy.

Watched it in Spain. Worryingly bad. Poorly set up. No fight. Players not able to execute the system. 1 up front isolated.

Big questions to be answered given he’s admitted we were out fought. How can that happen??

His comments were a bit odd. Almost like a pundit giving their opinion from the studio.

It's on you if the players weren't up for it. Maybe make that excuse in your honeymoon period but not after eight months in charge.

Having seen the highlights now, McGuinness does not come out with any credit. Misjudged the ball and no muscle for the first. And gives up a 2-3 yard head start for their guy tk tap in the second.

Lack of match sharpness maybe. But he looks ropey as fuck.

Has looked like a bang average L1 player since we signed him. Has had one really good game (Derby A), apart from a couple of decent headers away at QPR, what have we seen from him to suggest he can take us to the next level?!

On another day, the ref probably could have sent him off. That said the Bradford left back made a meal out of the second foul. Alli wants to run in behind the full back and in the first 20 minutes or so him and McGuinness seemed to be on a completely different wavelengths. I would be tempted to play 4-2-3-1 against Wigan. Unfortunately, it would mean having to play centre halves as full backs. That said, it might be easier to play rather than asking them to play wing back roles.

Agree. And stick with that formation if we finally recruit some specialist full backs

That’s my thinking. Yes. Naismith would likely be done for pace, but you just tell him tk defend, forget about overlapping.

You then just get Alli and Kodua to go at their full backs all night with Clark/Baptiste supporting the front man.

I can see why Bristol City were eager to off load Naismith today.

I have a feeling that Bloomfield was planning on playing 4-3-3 or variations of but when Bloomfield was told by Sweet we were signing Naismith and he had to be made captain we were forced to stick with 3 at the back to fit him in.

Why didn't Bloomfield select him for the WBA game, now that is the real question.

If he would have been as dire at WBA than he was today then it was probably the right call!

And if, as you say, it was the right call, why did we sign him? Over the last few windows, we have made some dreadful signings; whoever is responsible for it, their heads should roll. It seems to me there are some people in roles at the club that maybe should not be there.

Signings reminds me of the scattergun approach in non league, hoping it will come good.
I've never liked signing players other clubs release and don't want.
