    Positives and negatives from today

Posted by Earls on 16/8/2025, 17:43:09

    Positives
Keeley could maybe have done more on the goal, but he continues to dominate his area, and that was a brilliant save when the defence (I think wrongly?) assumed it was offside.
    Andersen continues to be solid
Bramall was at fault for the goal (rusty?) but was decent after
Kodua might, just might, be the answer at RWB.
    Nordas was decent. No, really.
    No Woodrow in the squad
Bradford sat back at 2-0, but at least we didn’t fold

    Negatives
    Everything else, obviously, but specifically:
Why pick the starting full-backs on their wrong flank?
Fanne, Alli and Lonwijk are decent players, but we don’t seem to know where/how to play them
Clark was terrible. It happens, but how did he not get subbed?
The midfield had no creativity, yet also lost all the 50/50s. None of them have got going yet this season.
Yates will come good, but he seems to make the wrong run every time to pick up a pass right now.
Did we REALLY not know Doughty would leave and have a LWB replacement in mind? (Not relevant to today, but that’s such a load of old bollocks.)

Whilst he wasn't my choice, he was man of the match on the coaches with more votes than second and third combined.

        That illustrates the problem

What problem does it illustrate other than that everyone sees things differently?

Clark is a shadow of the player he was and yet he was deemed to be player of the match. If we are relying on Clark to save our season then we all need a massive reset of expectations

For me, the top three yesterday were Keeley, Kodua and Bramall. Three players who could be key to how this season goes.

Agree about Alli and Fanne in particular. Alli was brought in to offer an attacking threat which he showed last season. This season he is further back and not making him the threat he should be. Fanne is a potentially good player who is being used too far up the field. Don’t see the thinking behind recruiting players to the club and then changing their position on the field. It’s no wonder they under perform. Surely this is one lesson we should have learnt from last seasons debacle.

Most certainly should have although clearly we haven't. It's mad and maddening and will only serve to wind up the fans. It really is inexcusable

Who knows perhaps we have gained a reputation for this and maybe putting potential signings off?

Lots to agree with there particularly the roles given to the wing backs. Saville, so far, a huge disappointment for me, other than shouting a lot really can’t see.what he offers over and above the club legend now on the bench at Cambridge!!! Agree Yates will come good, probably very good. I’d disagree re clicker, he was making excellent runs and movement but needs his fellow midfielders to be on the same wavelength, for the first time I can remember he was better with Walsh alongside!

442 is the answer. Don’t care if we have more CB, this overall mean we will have more going forward and not kea e big gaps on the flanks. Naismith slows the play down a lot, so we can’t get any momentum.

I think calling some of them pegs is being extremely generous
