    Unable to Read the Game

I don’t claim to be the sharpest but it does strike me that we are lacking a degree of intelligence on the field.

Picking out the right pass, finding space and positioning are all an issue for us and I think that’s why we appear to look”slow”.

It’s one (of many things) that Barkley brought to our game. He held the ball up well and he could pick out a pass. While I realize that Barkley is way out of our league now, I think that that kind footballing mind is what we’ve been lacking for a while now.

We’ve got 2 at the club who can do that at times, Baptiste and Walsh but both aren’t even good enough to be pound shop Ross Barkleys! Baptiste disappears during games (and indeed fairly soon will no doubt be injured and disappear for weeks on end) whereas Walsh does show for the ball in a similar manner to Barkley but is very wasteful and rarely gets the big passes right. If we are to rely on either of those two for a successful season we are most likely to finish bottom half! What we actually need most are 2 wing backs if we continue to play the wing back system!!

I totally agree with all of that, especially your observation regarding Walsh. He has flashes of Barkley-esque brilliance but he does tend to be wasteful.

Based on what I’ve seen so far this season, I think mid-table is about right. However, that was roughly what I expected to begin with - playoffs at a scrape.

Don't worry, the array of talent on the bench will get us out of this

Fully agree there, it's all 'three touch' football because nobody seems in the right place for a quick pass . .

Exactly and it just makes for a terrible game of football.

I mean seriously, with the exception of a few games here and there we have painful to watch for a long time now.
