5 vs 4 at the back

Ultimately it doesn’t matter as we currently have no fit, convincing options at full back or wing back

Our promotion from this league last time round seemed to include lots of crosses from the bye line - Shinnie > Stacey > Collins felt like a cheat code!!!

It isn't the wrong thread, really. You, correctly, highlighting what quality we had at full back then and Sandgrounder, also correctly, pointing out what a gulf the squad has in 2 crucial areas of the pitch, which is contributing hugely to stifling creativity and threat going forward

The only convincing option we have in those position is Jones at wing back. But I'll bet he can't play full back. Plus, he's injured

It'll be make do and mend, again

It seems odd to me that recruitment this summer hasn't focused on shifting to a back four. When we signed a load of wingers and chased big Kone in January that seemed to be Bloomfield's intention.

But he's since gone back to the 3-5-2, with recruitment suggesting that's still the plan (Naismith, Lonwijk, Brammall, Kodua, Yates, Wells all seem to be 3-5-2 players).

              Agreed

I think Kodua could play as a wide forward if required and Wells could probably play as a ten behind Yates in a 4-2-3-1

But, yes, you're right. What's the plan for formation and style?

Either way, to not have anyone in the squad who can convincingly play as a full back or wing back (apart from Jones at WB) 2 games into the league season is less than ideal

                Less than ideal indeed.

I would go further to say that with the worst kept secret and surprise to absolutely fucking nobody that Doughty would be off, to apparently not have any targets being looked at, never mind close to signing in that position is a shit position to be in. Or are we just going to chuck Lonwijk out there?

And that's without talking about the RB/RWB and striker gaping holes.
