Carlton interview

No I`ve not bothered watching it. No reason I`d watch an interview with another clubs new signing. But apparently our fans are up in arms about it according to the headline in a clickbait article. Seems he may have described derby as a bigger club Sure someone who has watched it can confirm or deny.
So if people are getting stroppy about it - why? standard new signing interview i`m sure. Praise your new club, new challenge, excited to be here. Only move for me etc. Unless he directly slagged us off or showed a lack of respect (beyond that) - what does it matter what another clubs player who used to play for us says to get his new fans onside?
New Luton signing "I signed here as they are i a higher league . I`m being paid a shitload more. Actually thats the only reason i`m here" - i loved it there and wouldnt have left apart from money" - hardly likley to get fans onside is it?

Probably the same muppets that were on here and elsewhere complaining that this time last season Sweet, Wilkinson and Edwards were stating that we were going to piss the league. Would they expect them to tell the new and existing players, media and fans how tough it might be to start winning again publicly?

Something else about it all now People hoping ex managers and players fail When I was a kid and David Pleat left or Paul Walsh , I was bit disappointed for a bit. But I didn’t hope they lost every game and lost their jobs
I was more than sad when Ross Barkley left us. I was hoping somehow he would return messianic like, like the god he is and save us. I still have that hope, oh hum.....
Sine the PL our DNA has changed. Being down here will hopefully refocus and get what we had back, you know loud proud and slightly mental and dont give a flying monkeys what ex players are saying or the opposition.
Yep. Never has a statement on Outlaws rang so true. Its very easy to blame that on supporters. Yet we're still here, as normal, as we always have been. The DNA has changed at the top level, not below it.
I`d like to think our fans that will change back quickly . Clubwise I think at certain levels we have done what we were told not to "become billy big bollocks". That in itself is easily fixed though
Clubwise I think at certain levels we have done what we were told not to "become billy big bollocks".
Agreed. Again, that goes for both club and fans. Everyone got complacent. 'I completed football' said Pelly. I think the club (and some, but not not all, fans) thought the same
can`t disagree with a word of that. Majority are the same fans we had in the conference. We now just have some that are a bit more "arsenal tv" shouty than before. At least we won`t have such a focus on "naughty" chants.
We aren`t quite at the underdog stage yet - which is where we are best. And basically where we were right up t the point we got relegated from the prem. Still i`d be quite happy being not underdogs and going up so we can be underdogs in the championship
Go up as Champions, nothing less. Another trophy to the cabinet. Unlike the pissed stained heathen down the road who dont own a trophy cabinet let alone have anything to put in it.

He was asked a leading question "Derby are a bigger club than Luton aren't they?" and he said "Yeah" before immediately talking about what an incredible thing Luton achieved and how brilliant his time with us was and how it's motivated him to want to do it all again.
Didn't slag us off, spoke highly of us, just politely agreed with the in-house interviewer putting words in his mouth.
And anyway it's true, they've won the league and have more fans than us and have very rarely been outside the top two divisions.
They were a good sized club in the 70s, shrunk in the 80s but grew again, quickly, early this century
I agree they're not a huge club but they have better infrastructure, a larger fanbase and a better history than us

And Derby have also won the fa Cup - albeit in 1946. By virtually any measure, Derby are a bigger club than us. But who cares. Fuck 'em. We're best as underdogs anyway.
Bigger club is always subjective. Based on history, trophies, attendances, league, stadium size, number of fans in the far east etc . Its always a bit of a shit statistic And a pretty pointless one. We are currently a big club for l1 as we were in the prem 2 years ago Take that away and base it on stadium or crowd size we are bid table All irrelevant. Its sandinfannyitis for people who get annoyed by that comment if he made it.
That illustrates how pointless the whole thing is. When derby were league 1 and we were prem you could argue we were the bigger club at the time. We were certainly more attractive for players.
But in pointless debates i`d also argue we are a similar size to a brentford, or a bournemouth. Similar supporter bases. Similar groud ish sizes (cba to check brentfords new capacity) . Actually if its based on ground sizes the franchise are bigger. they arent of course, but it shows how pointless the metric can be. And why its really not worth getting upset over if people are.
When derby were league 1 and we were prem you could argue we were the bigger club at the time.
Nah, you couldn't
That's like Watford fans saying they were bigger than Forest just because, during one snapshot in time, they were in a higher league than them
I still think we're bigger than Bournemouth and Brentford but with us scrambling around in the lower leagues, again, a mere 16 months after being a Prem side, that claim will soon wear thin
The new ground will quickly propel us, of course, as long as we're back in the top 2 divisions where we should be
