Cobbled Together Squad
Posted by Mayor of Rudebury on 4/8/2025, 19:54:33
Anyone else feel as if the current squad is a bit cobbled together?
Massive respect to Bloomfield if he can get automatic promotion with what we’ve got.
I can`t work out what formation would work with the players we have though. Obviously we have at least 4 or 5 very decent CB`s for this level - and ones who may be better in a 3 at the back.
We don`t have big target strikers for the wingbacks to miss with crosses.
We have Alli who is probably best wide and cutting in.
We have a plethora of players who can play the 10 role.
Yes i know one game - but if we are playing 5 and the back there isnt a formation and players that spring to midn that will take advantage of the assets
I still think Bloomfield wants to play 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 if he can get rid of about 3 centre halves... with Naismith as a defensive midfielder
But we don't really have any specialist full backs apart from Walters and Brammall. It's a weird one but we do have a few players who can play as wide forwards
We probably have too many central forwards too, as you say. Especially if we do go for 4 at the back and only one central forward. I'm assuming Nordas might be shipped out on loan. What a bizarre signing that is proving to be so far
In terms of centre midfield creativity, Donley at Spurs is apparently available on loan. I'd like to think we might be interested
I dunno about his preferred formation, at the moment I think it's still a 3-5-2.
Thing is with Bloomfield is that he hasn't coached or managed for long, I think I'm right in saying he went straight from playing to managing.
On the positive side of that it means he's likely to be still tactically flexible but the negative side is that he hasn't worked out a winning formation.
I suppose another benefit is that it keeps the opposition guessing if we are a bit more tactically flexible. One of the reasons Amorim's Man Utd team was poor last season is that managers knew exactly what they are going to come up against and can pick a team that will exploit the weaknesses.
