    Test Match

We lost this one but what a series

Seems odd to blame Harry Brook after a brilliant 100, but we were coasting to victory, India we're done!
Why did he play such a stupid shot.
Nothing better than a test series in the summer, shame we had to rush through the series to fit in that comedy show The Hundred.

The appalling fielding on Saturday and Sunday morning probably cost us more than Brook's, admittedly, dopey shot

We would have been chasing around 270-300 to win if we fielded properly

I like McCullum and what he is trying to do but, in virtually every series since he took over, we have had very sloppy and costly passages of play

Up there with 2005 in terms of drama and quality.

Still angry at Brook for chucking away his wicket though!

On the one hand, I'm really angry with Brook for chucking away his wicket in the most frivilous fashion, but on the other hand, without his innings we wouldn't have got anywhere near to winning.

Whatever your view, that was a brilliant test series, ful of brilliance, confrontations and drama.

If you want to angry with anyone, save it for the ECB who have condensed 5 tests into 25 days to make way way for the absolute abomination that is The Hundred.

The stronger the team, the stronger the team.

+100 about The Hundred and the appalling impact it has on tests.

Fabulous series and I think Smith rather more than Brook should take some responsibility. Why chase three balls exactly the same. Nerves obviously got to him I guess. Brook left us in a great position, Smith the batsman added nothing positive.

In the end England pretty much gave India the game with substandard play in parts of this one but still came so close that the Woakes injury looked decisive. but A draw was the right result for the series though, neither team deserved to lose overall.

Given England played with 10 men (and picked Bethell who, unsurprisingly, contributed nothing having played about 5 minutes of FC cricket in 6 months), they did incredibly to even have a chance of winning.

With 70 to win and 6/7 wickets remaining, they should have won, but India bowled so well. And they deserve at least 2-2 out of the series.

Very much 2-2 to India, that series, much as the last Ashes was 2-2 to us.

Exactly. If Stokes breaks down before or during The Ashes, the ECB are, at least, partly to blame

                Come on England

The Hundred is shite and just an advertising platform for crisps....ECB shouldve never let it get passed embryonic stage...wankers

                Pardon?
Each test has been five days long. Five tests therefore makes twenty five days.

I know what you mean but you may need to revisit your Maths.

He's saying there was very little rest between tests, players can't get over injuries etc.
You try playing cricket for one day, never mind 5, it's tough physically & mentally.

Agree, particularly on final point. With a fit Stokes, or even 11 players, we win that comfortably.

Feel the same way about Brook. You can't help feeling that with a fit Stokes we would have won but I suppose India were without Bumrah. Too right on ECB we don't need the Hundred its adding nothing and don't see how it gets people interested in cricket.

Without the money the counties get from it. At least 6 of them probably would be close to folding by now
I went to Northants last week for a county match. Probably a crowd of 250 tops of which 3 were kids. This during the school holidays.
This nonsense about August is also a load of old guff. Weather usually isn’t that great. Loads of people on holiday and the football season starts too which now pretty much dominates everything.

If Siraj had not trod on the boundary Brook would have been out for 18. We lost it because we lost our frontline bowler. If we’d had our full bowling attack available we’d have crossed the winning line.

Very true point re the 100 and scheduling. You’d have wanted Stokes and Bumrah fit enough for the series finale.

Let’s hope the Ashes this winter is equally as compelling (and we win)

I think we will win in Australia so long as Stokes stays fit....

often the 4-5 match series are one sided affairs but this was something else!

Stokes is essential for the Ashes. Not sure how our bowling will get on in Oz, Stokes, Archer, Atkinson great but who else?

                                Wood. If fit

But, yeah, our bowling depth is not great. No real decent spinner either

Dawson might be the best option as he can bat and has huge experience but he's 35

They’ll go with Bashir, but fear he might get dominated by Travis Head.

I like Carson and if Tongue can be less erratic he is unplayable. Atkinson, Archer/Wood, Stokes. Just need that consistent line and length seamer…Potts maybe?
