This is going to be a big season for him - or needs to be.
He’s getting to a point in his career where he needs to be nailing down a regular starting position for someone.
Right now I don’t know what his best position actually is. I always thought he was a good #10 but seems to have been shifted wide quite a lot. Almost becoming a jack of all trades and the master of none.
He played a bit part last season at Championship level. It doesn’t appear he’s going to be doing any more again this season.
I think he needs to show a bit of swagger, a bit more confidence like some of the others we’ve signed from a higher level. I think he has the ability but it hasn’t really come out yet. I’ve noticed he can be quite tentative on the ball but he can produce what he did at QPR last season.

He and JJ are alike in that they've probably developed TOO quickly - they've become first team squad players without ever having been sent out on loan anywhere so they have very little game experience. No wonder he can appear timid and uncertain on the pitch - he probably is!
The likes of Makosso, Aasgaard, Fanne are young too but they'd played a lot of men's football when they joined us and done a lot more learning on the pitch.
It might feel like a waste because we know how talented he is, but it might be best for everyone if he was sent out on loan until January so he can develop and build confidence out of the spotlight.

Fair points but I would say that Aasgaard learned his trade at this level and the Championship.
As a club I do think we need to get to a point where we start trusting our own developed players with genuine chances in the first team. I hope that Nelson is one we can do that with, certainly some talent there.
I get why we haven't done that much in the recent past but we do need to demonstrate that pathway if we are to change things.
