I know I might get lynched for saying this….
I’m not 100% convinced.
Can be incredibly wasteful with the ball - the game against Blackburn particularly springs to mind when he was always our free man and outlet but did nothing with it.
He’s got a trick but he has a tendency to run without looking up. I’m not sure he’s always aware of the simple pass. His delivery is also not the best.
He’s not a number 10 for me - much better playing wider but he’s also not a LWB. In our current 5221 or 5212 system it’s hard to see where he might be first choice. I think I’d much rather see Yates as the number 9 with Wells and Nelson behind and a proper LWB.
If we go 433 then he’s nailed on as first choice as the left inside forward. Maybe we might shift to this system but given the embarrassment of riches we have at CB I think it’s unlikely.
Totally agree. A few goals last season shows promise. However he's still got to make the right decisions and develop his all round game. Few games last year where he had a defender isolated and didn't take them on. He's not the only one and show's how much work is needed in attack. I'd also be working on first touch and snap shots after the chance not taken on Friday.
I think we have a lot of players now, a lot of which we signed this summer have real upside potential but not the finished article.
We have a lot of players I think that have ceilings higher than L1, substantially so.
We have a lot of experience now but maybe there’s an unintended gap forming between the 24-29 age range where players have hit their peak and are the finished article.
