    That was a slog

Posted by Carrolls Elbow on 1/8/2025, 21:58:55

Wins a win, gets us up and running.

Observations. We will struggle to break down low block teams as we are. Walsh was one of the few who could see and pick a pass, not all came off mind. Need to get him on the ball more and Baptiste on the pitch more too.

Don’t think we need 3 CBs. Need to be playing two up too. Or 433.

Makosso is a beast, but someone needs to tell him he can’t ping a pass. Stick to basics. Walters was decent I thought, but see some don’t agree.

Clark was pretty anonymous I thought.

Wells was good, nice touches and energy.

Yates will be a great acquisition. Looking forward to seeing how he fits in and hopefully a couple more in too.

Set up was wrong for a home game against a newly promoted side who we knew would defend in depth with limited ambition.Starting with 5 defenders and a holding mid was never going to break them down.

No width as Walters and Longwyk were poor going forward. No hold up cf. No effective number 10. So basically Alli, Clicker and Wells left to break down an 8 man defence.

Break down their defence with the ball in for the winner?

No idea what that's meant to mean but it was a great ball in which gave Johnson no option but to get his head onto it.

We will take time, big squad changes. But the idea that Walsh and Clarke together is now going to work this year, after it didnt last year is a bit baffling.

Birmingham had big squad changes last season, they won 7 of their 1st 8 games and went on to win 34!

Calling a new player who hasn’t kicked a ball a Cnut isn’t criticism just attention seeking.
