It often does, when existing contracts expire at the end of a month.
I have strong recollections of the bed wetting on here over Craig McKail Smith… think from memory it was announced on 1st August.

It was so he could collect his (much higher) pay from Brighton for the extra month that has to be paid if a player doesn't get a new club. He played in PSFs as a trialist.
